Meet Sarah Peirce

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sarah Peirce. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Sarah , thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

I love observing the world around me. As a makeup artist, I’m fascinated by the interplay of colors in nature and in images.
I read and listen to books that spark thought and deepen my understanding of nature, art, science, and history. I’m intrigued by how history and society influences fashion and art.
Collaborating with other creative individuals fuels my own creativity. I often ask people about their creative outlets. Sometimes, people might not initially recognize their own creativity, but after speaking with them, it’s evident that creativity exists in many forms.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I began my makeup career in London, graduating from the London College of Fashion where I mastered all aspects of makeup artistry. My experience spans TV, film, and editorial work. After relocating to Colorado, I launched my business, Make Faces, with a focus on bridal and photographic makeup.
Having worked on hundreds of weddings, I find immense joy in bridal makeup and consider it a privilege to be part of each bride’s special day. My makeup style has evolved to emphasize natural beauty, where the goal is to enhance rather than mask. I believe that achieving a subtle, natural look is an art form—it’s about letting the person shine through rather than the makeup.
I collaborate with talented photographers and take pride in helping clients feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera, ensuring that photoshoots are both enjoyable and a true celebration of each individual. Make Faces continues to grow, supported by a team of skilled and dependable makeup artists and hairstylists.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I believe that no education is ever wasted; I’ve worked with animals, I worked as an Esthetician ,I’ve studied business, travelled, I’ve taken inspiration from people I have met and experinces. Each experience and skill contributes to creating your ideal environment.
Embrace the possibility of changing paths, regardless of where you are in life or your education. Curiosity and a thirst for knowledge creates a rich, fulfilling environment.
While it’s natural to compare yourself to others, it’s essential to celebrate your own individuality—it’s your greatest asset. As an artist, relish the journey of discovering and evolving your unique style. Seek out fellow creatives to collaborate with, and take advantage of the visual age we live in. It’s an exciting time for artists to thrive and make their mark.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

For Makeup Artists I highly recommend ‘Color Theory For The Makeup Artist’ by Katie Middleton. Understanding Color theory and light is so important as a Makeup Artist, this book helps you train your eye to understand and recognise distinctions in color.

Another book recommendation is ‘101 Essays that will change the way you think’ by Brianna West. I love listening to or reading this book. There are too many wonderful nuggets or wisdom to mention.

And my other recommendation, not a book, but I get asked this a lot. Some good makeup tutorials online – I recommend, on YouTube, Lisa Eldridge, her tutorials are detail oriented without being overwhelming.
