Meet Steve Gandolfi

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Steve Gandolfi. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Steve, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

Where do I get my resilience from

I started working in the film industry at the early age of 8.5 years old as a runner. Whenever I had the chance to be involved, I was there. Whether it was weekends or school holidays.

Since I landed my first permanent position around 14-15 years old I’ve come across a lot of people that have taught me many things and I’ve tried to take what I’ve learned from them and adjust it to work best for myself.

Training in martial arts most of my life has always helped me to understand the importance of never quitting and there’s always value in pushing through. They have given me the ability to get knocked down and bounce back, sometimes straight away and sometimes after a good nights sleep.
Overcoming challenges builds a reservoir of strength, and I have been able to use hard times to generate inspiration to always keep going.
As the word resilience is explained, it is not a fixed trait. It can be developed and strengthened over time, as it has that been done with me.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m an editor, I’ve been doing it nearly all my breathing life. I did switch to becoming a Director for a while but I didn’t enjoy it as much as being Editor. Editing to me is a passion, I adore. I work nearly every day joining up shots, making stories work.

I do many TV commercials and I am just about to start next week on my first Super Bowl spot for 2025.
I have a couple of projects out at the moment in Holly Shorts the Hollywood award show I’m quite proud about.
There’s a first episode of a TV series called Black Mark featuring Matt Barnes called Del Campo.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Be nice
Be nice
And be nice again

I’ve never done a bad thing to anybody in my career which I’m quite proud of. Of course, you have to let people go but when you work at a company some people are not cut from the same cloth that you would like them to be cut from.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

To me it’s a man called Daniel Kleinman. He’s a Director I’ve worked with for over 30 years. He has been involved with numerous award-winning commercials, directing many title sequences from The James Bond movies, he’s been voted Director of the decade.
Observing the way he works, understanding the madness, has been totally inspiring to me.
