Meet Nahomie St.louis

We were lucky to catch up with Nahomie St.louis recently and have shared our conversation below.

Nahomie , so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

I’ve been on this journey, and every now and then, imposter syndrome likes to creep into my life. Through lots of prayer and scriptual affirmations, I reached a point where I just did it scared! I didn’t let fear define me; instead, I embraced it and understood that it’s all part of the journey. I never wanted to be the person who only dreamed of making my ideas a reality—I wanted to make it happen.

I remember when I was working toward my masters degree in digital marketing, at the time I was the only black girl in my class, no one I knew I was doing this degree. I was so scared to submit assignments. I always thought they weren’t what the teacher wanted, so I held onto them, procrastinating, afraid that the work wasn’t good enough. But it turned out I was doing really well. My mind was the one entrapping me.

There was one time when I held onto an assignment and finally submitted it two weeks late—not because I wasn’t done, but because my anxiety made me think it wasn’t good enough. My teacher told me I would have received a perfect grade if I had submitted it on time. I cried so much that day because I realized my fear of “getting it all wrong” was holding me back, and that was not the first time, this was a repetive story of my life in many areas.

Since then, I’ve fought to make the decision to move forward in my purpose and goals. It first started with learning how to kill the perfectionism in my heart and learning how to stop comparing my abilities to others.

I am fearfully and wonderfully made and my souls knows this very well!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am officially an author! I launched my book, *Pursuit of Joy: A Poetic Autobiography*, on August 3rd, 2024. Of course, being extra, my launch was called the Evergreen Showcase, and it featured poetry, dance, theater, and vocals. Now, I’m focused on getting this 3.5-year project into the hands of more readers who would appreciate my poetic story, whether through performances at events, churches, weddings, schools, or other venues.

I am the founder of Pursuit of Joy, an organization dedicated to empowering women on their journey toward purpose, healing, and self-love, with a focus on drawing them closer to the heart of God. The organization is evolving into something greater than I can fully share right now, but you can expect more art, more events, and more spaces that bring healing to our community.

Currently, I’m an arts educator. I left my role as a teen program director, but I’ll always have a love for seeing young artists on stage—it’s how I started. I’m also the Arts Cultural Event Coordinator and Social Media Manager for Black Market Nubian, and I take on freelance digital marketing projects as they come.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1. Learning how to recieve Constructive Feedback is important because you will never be able to grow if you are afraid to hear what people have to say about you/your brand/your business.

2. I am always trying my best to get organized and find structure. It might seem tedious to do so but it is extremely important especially if you are looking to grow your business.

3. I am a leader of a team, therefore I hold great responsibilty for those who work with me. It is my job to communicate effectively the vision and plans that I have. When something goes wrong, I have built the habit at looking at myself primarily before I start pointing fingers at others,

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

My parents are Haitian Immigrants, came to this country in hopes to make a way for me and my family. I got my entreprenuership from my mom. She never recieved formal education but the way that she has developed and maintained her own personal business from our home is amazing to me. I always say that if she had recieved the proper education she would have been a millionaire! I am my parents legacy, had it not been for their sacrifice and support I do not think I would be in this place today. I love them with my entire heart and I do this for them. They deserve the world, and as time passes by I want to make them proud and provide them rest.
