Meet Michelle Richburg

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Michelle Richburg. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Michelle, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

Resilience for me is deeply rooted in the most challenging experiences of my life. One of the most defining moments was when I lost my job—a moment that felt like a personal failure. My career was more than just a job; it was a significant part of my identity, and losing it left me feeling lost and uncertain about my future. The fear and anxiety of how I would support my son and keep our home were overwhelming. Around the same time, I experienced another profound loss when someone I trusted and planned to marry suddenly disappeared from my life without explanation. These events left me grappling with a deep sense of abandonment and despair.

Despite these dark times, my faith was my constant anchor. There were moments when I didn’t know how I was going to make it through, but I held onto the belief that God had a plan for me. One of my favorite Bible verses, Jeremiah 29:11, provided immense comfort: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” This verse reminded me that even in my darkest moments, there was a purpose to my pain.

With the support of my mentor Dorene and my pastor, I slowly began to rebuild my confidence and rediscover my sense of purpose. I took a leap of faith, reached out to former colleagues, and eventually started my own business, Richburg Enterprises. This journey reignited my passion and reminded me that every setback is a setup for a comeback. My resilience grew stronger as I embraced each challenge as an opportunity for growth.

Today, I understand that my value is not tied to any job or title but to who I am as a person and the purpose that God has set for me. My resilience is a testament to my faith, my ability to rise above life’s challenges, and my commitment to living out my purpose. Every challenge I face now is met with the confidence that I have the strength and resilience to overcome it, knowing that there is always a greater plan at work.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Financial management means more than statistics, projections, facts, and figures. For President and C.E.O. of Richburg Enterprises, Michelle Richburg, it provides an opportunity to positively impact the lives and legacies of her clients long-term. Her personalized approach has established her as a leading figure in her industry, earning recognition as one of Billboard’s “Top Business Managers” for 2020, 2021, and 2022, 2023 and featuring on the “R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players” list for the same years. In 2021, The Recording Academy recognized her contributions by inviting her to become a member. She has also been honored in Billboard’s 2023 Women in Music and received various other accolades.

“To me, it’s never just numbers on the page,” she exclaims. “We’re very intentional about educating clients, making sure they pay their taxes, and enabling them to build wealth. Transparency is key. We’re always open, honest, and direct.”
Raised in New York, Michelle Richburg was imbued with the value of financial independence by her grandmother, a domestic worker who, alongside her chauffeur husband, astutely saved enough to purchase four houses in cash. This disciplined approach to savings and investment left a lasting impression on Michelle, providing a concrete example of financial prudence. Starting her career in banking as a check processor during high school, Michelle’s ambition and diligence propelled her academic and professional journey. She earned a BS in Business Administration with a minor in Business Management from Mercy College and completed various training programs in wealth management, marketing management, total quality management, life insurance, credit underwriting, and banking fundamentals.

I am launching a financial course in September called “Beyond The Bag: A Financial Blueprint to Building Wealth.

I will also have my first event in January 2025 “Master Your Money: 2025 Financial Wellness Workshop”

I am also part of “Chasing 100” Anthology. It’s inspiration to what is possible when we dare to dream big. It’s not only a part of a book but also a leader in a movement that champions personal transformation and chasing down the highest and best version of ourselves. It will be out later this year.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, the three qualities that were most impactful in my journey are resilience, financial acumen, and relationship-building.

Resilience: Resilience has been crucial in navigating the highs and lows of my career. The ability to bounce back from setbacks, whether it was losing a job or facing personal challenges, has been instrumental in my success. For those early in their journey, I recommend embracing challenges as opportunities for growth. Developing resilience means learning to see failures as steppingstones rather than roadblocks.

Financial Acumen: A deep understanding of financial principles has been foundational in my career, especially in managing the finances of high-profile clients. I suggest that anyone starting out should invest time in mastering the basics of financial management—whether it’s through formal education or self-study. Understanding money management, investment strategies, and tax planning are key skills that will serve you well in any field.

Relationship-Building: The ability to build and maintain strong relationships has been a significant factor in my career growth. Relationships with mentors, colleagues, and clients have opened doors and provided support when needed most. My advice is to actively cultivate your network—connect with people in your industry, seek out mentors, and be genuine in your interactions. Strong relationships can provide guidance, opportunities, and support throughout your career.

For those early in their journey, focus on developing these skills through practical experience, continuous learning, and by seeking out opportunities that challenge you. Each of these qualities will not only help you grow professionally but also ensure you are prepared to handle the inevitable challenges along the way.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I am definitely looking for folks to partner or collaborate with. Collaboration is a key aspect of growth, both for my business and for the impact I aim to make in the financial wellness space. I am particularly interested in collaborating with individuals and organizations that share a commitment to financial education, empowerment, and innovation.

Types of Folks I’m Looking to Collaborate With:

Financial Educators and Coaches: I’m seeking partners who are passionate about financial literacy and are dedicated to helping others build a strong foundation for financial success. Whether through workshops, courses, or one-on-one coaching, I’m interested in working with those who can provide valuable insights and tools to help people manage their finances better.

Entrepreneurs and Small Business Owners: Collaborating with business owners who prioritize financial health and long-term wealth building is a priority. I’m looking for individuals who understand the importance of strategic financial planning and who are eager to implement innovative financial practices in their businesses.

Tech Innovators in FinTech: Technology plays a crucial role in financial management today. I’m interested in partnering with tech innovators who are developing new tools and platforms that can simplify financial management, enhance financial literacy, or offer new ways to approach wealth building.

Content Creators and Influencers: Collaboration with content creators who have a strong focus on personal finance, entrepreneurship, and self-improvement can help amplify the message of financial wellness. I’m looking for partners who can creatively communicate financial principles and inspire their audiences to take control of their financial futures.

Non-Profit Organizations and Community Leaders: I’m also interested in partnering with non-profits and community leaders who are focused on economic empowerment, particularly in underserved communities. Collaborating on initiatives that aim to close the wealth gap and provide access to financial education is something I’m deeply passionate about.

In all collaborations, I value integrity, a shared vision, and a genuine desire to make a positive impact. I believe that through collaboration, we can amplify our efforts and create lasting change in the lives of those we serve.
