Meet Steph Mahony

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Steph Mahony a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Steph , thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

I didn’t really have Imposter syndrome until I began pivoting into a new direction I knew nothing about.

The first time I was shown I had a higher calling in my life, was when I began to see visions of myself. In my minds eye I was on stage, in front of a grand auditorium with tens of thousands of people. I was standing there confidently, with my arms wide open, speaking to this crowd with such ease, flow and joy. I was in my zone. The only thing was that none of this was real. I didn’t even have a job that would grant me this sort of opportunity, and on top of that, I was even scared of public speaking at that time. So this vision of me on stage just didn’t make any sense, but yet, it would keep coming to me when I was in this daydreamy mode. Years later I came to learn my higher calling. I was meant to be a Healer, who would one day travel the world, to help people heal, transform, and begin living a life they truly love. That I would be Speaking on stages, teaching people of a better way to live.

Up until that point, I was working in the stock markets in the financial securities industry, which I absolutely loved. I was a big fish, in a small pond, winning awards as the top leader in my field. So pivoting into new field, as a small fish, in a huge ocean, was huge. I was leaning into a new field I knew nothing about: spirituality, healing and entrepreneurship. I knew my heart was guiding me there, but it was also requiring me to step outside my safe comfort zone. It began with showing the world my true authentic self. I wasn’t sure if they would accept this new part of me. I was so scared of the judgment of what my coworkers, families, and friends would think. For months, I would cry under my covers, scared to face this new reality and convinced there was someone better than me. I prayed and told Divinity they had the wrong girl, and that they should go find Gabby Bernstein instead. She was a spiritual leader with a huge following already. Why would they need anyone else? She was amazing. Who would want to even listen to me, if there was already a Gabby Bernstein in this world? I thought. But I heard so clearly in my heart, “We don’t need you to be Gabby, we need you to be Stephanie.” Then I began seeing this pop up on my Instagram feed: “If not you, who? If not now, when?”

All of these messages kept reaffirming my inner truth, that somehow, in some way, the world needed me. The real me. I was time to stop hiding behind the covers and begin to show the world my true authentic self. The first step, was taking the first step, which meant quieting my mind to hear my own voice. I began to get aligned to my inner truth, my own thoughts and my own perspectives. I began finding my truth and in my mind, speaking my truth. I then began speaking my truth out loud, alone in my room. Then I would take my phone and record myself speaking my truth. Then I was being nudged to go online and post something, say something, speak something. I was in this new era of faith, but many times it felt like holding my breath as I was hanging my string.

What helped me to overcome imposter syndrome was envisioning my 2.0 best self. I loved Gabby Bernstein and instead of asking Divinity to have her take my place, I decided to embody the qualities As I learned her story, it helped knowing she once started at the bottom too. Then I began to read more about other famous speakers, and how they had to learn too from humble beginnings. I started to see how everyone who has millions, started from ground zero, and to not compare my chapter one to their chapter twenty. I began finding this acceptance and from there my confidence grew. I began to fill in these shoes. I started to embody who I was, and where I was going and started to build my empower.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1. Courage. Fear will always be present no matter how successful you get, so allow it to sit in the passenger seat but keep pushing forward, saying yes, and giving it your 100%. Every time you do this, it opens a new portal of opportunity, then another, then another. This is how you quantum leap into your future.

2. Grit and Determination. This is tenancy. It is what sets apart people who are successful, because they show up even when they are tired or don’t want to do. They keep giving it their 100%. Life becomes more about doing rather than how they feel in that moment. This is truly key to success because it transforms thoughts, dreams and wishes into tangible reality.

3. Positive attitude. This is the sweetness of life that attracts more sweetness to you. If you have a positive attitude and outline you’ll always experience that positive. The greatest discovery of allis that a person can change their future, by simply changing their attitude. Joy Meyer says that you can have a big problem with a good attitude, and it will make the problem shrink. Or you can have a small problem with a bad attitude, which will make that problem grow. Although we may not have control of the circumstances we face, our free will, allows us to choose how we respond to that challenge. And that reaction will result in either an upward spiral towards our dream or downward spiral to rock bottom.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

Growing up my dad always told, “If you do something, do it right” – and this has been a guiding force in my life. I have come to learn a higher truth that life and destiny come to you in the form of choices, on a moment to moment basis, through people, circumstances or events in your life. And there are always only two choices: right or easy. Right is taking the higher path, putting in more effort, doing something you probably don’t feel like doing but yet it’s the thing your future self will thank you for. The easy path is your comfort zone, laziness, ‘self’ and this pathway keeps you stuck from moving forward in life and attracts more like energy that anchors you into your comfort zone, So learning about ‘doing right’ from the beginning, really taught me the importance from a young age, which has help my sculpt my decision making as an adult.
