Meet Fran Vives

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Fran Vives a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Fran, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

In my world, three concepts get the job done for me in being successful/effective. Perseverance, accepting yourself, and having fun. These three have to feel natural and spontaneous to get the best out of me. Learning how to deal and understand these three concepts is called “LIFE” acknowledging that, every process is different and special. For me, the term successful is about loving yourself. It’s easy to be hard on yourself because you are not achieving things that you think are succesulf for you especially when there is a lot to compare these days (social media). The goal of success is to love and accept yourself as you are. We are all unique and a single miracle.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I was born in the U.S.A. to a Chilean marriage. My musical journey began at the age of 12 next to a vertical Piano at my parent’s house. At the age of 16, I learned how to play rhythms on my younger brother´s (Fernando Vives) toy drum kit, and later got a real drum set and began my first Progressive Rock band as a drummer. I studied Composition and Musical Arrangements at Escuela Moderna Institute in Chile (2002-2008). At the age of 23, I did some studies in the USA of Afrobeat rhythms with the Senegalese master guru (*PAPE). At this time I develop a great interest in Synthesizers and sounds. I’am currently living in California USA and work as a Music Producer, Composer, and engineer at Vivesmusic Studio. I also perform with some local bands as a keyboardist. I gotta say I feel blessed to be part of a musical project with two siblings called “The Vros” This is something that keeps my music vibe excited. Family fact, one brother lives in Chile and If he were here he would definitely be part of the band. It’s the missing piece we need (drums).

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

– To be always amazed, you never know what goodies are waiting to unveil and this can be key if you’re a creator.
– Being present and grateful. This keeps me attentive to what is happening around me and thanking life for how things are and are not.
– To be loving and kind. The universe will take care of giving back all the goods and will make you have a better day.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I’d love to connect with music supervisors, movie directors, production agencies, and artists.
I truly believe my gift in this life is creating and expressing emotions/feelings through music and I can’t think of a better way if not combined with a story or real message that can awaken your superpowers or simply just feeling good and grateful for the life inside your body.
