Meet Kimberly Heimbach

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kimberly Heimbach a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Kimberly, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I found my purpose by constantly following my interest and building upon my education and passion in the field of art. This allowed me to build my skills over a variety of relatable industries from working in-house as a graphic designer at Pottery Barn teen to owning my own t-shirt brand and working with a celebrity stylist. My career and education started in ballet but after injury prevented me from going further I found a new purpose in creating beautiful art with my hands and creativity rather than my over-worked body. By attending an art college to get my BFA I also had the opportunity to explore many different aspects of art from life drawing to building a website. I am so happy to currently be stable with both my passion and profit creating live watercolor guest portraits while bringing so many smiles and memories people will cherish forever.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Ladyfolk Studio is the creation of Laguna Beach artist Kimberly Heimbach, a LCAD graduate and former adjunct professor. You can find Kim creating beautiful watercolor art at her studio in the heart of downtown Laguna Beach or at events for luxury fashion brands including Fendi, Gucci Beauty and LoveShack Fancy to name a few. Kim’s unique style and whimsical illustrations are in high demand to entertain guests at all kinds of events. In fact her wedding live guests paintings are so popular she is booked through next summer. Kim will be offering free monthly community events as well as Watercolor and Wine workshops where you are invited to join her at the studio and explore your own creativity. Kim hopes to inspire the next generation of female (ladyfolk) artists.

Ladyfolk Studio is open by appointment only currently. Kimberly will soon be debuting her new holiday art collection in the studio. Join her for her official ribbon cutting Thursday, November 7th 2024 at 5:30pm

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

A motto my modern dance instructor in New York taught me once was “overcome, adapt and improvise” and that is something I have relied on ever since. Whether it be pivoting a career because of injury like I had to after dance. I had to overcome that, adapt to having injuries and improvise to start using my creativity elsewhere, how could I still create beauty? That is always my goal as an artist. I learned to take the knowledge I had about the body, costume and set design and translate that onto paper. I built upon the skills I already had to develop a new path for myself. As more people were wanting what I was painting I knew I was headed in the right direction, especially since i enjoy it so much.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

As my art studio grows and I am booked up for weddings and events I am looking for ways to get my art and story to more people. I would love to collaborate with other women owned brands in the future. I could see my watercolor prints on beautiful dresses, maybe even bridesmaids dresses to coincide with the current industry for my watercolor art.
