We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jay Diggy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jay below.
Hi Jay , so excited to have you with us today, particularly to get your insight on a topic that comes up constantly in the community – overcoming creativity blocks. Any thoughts you can share with us?
The way i over come beat blocks, i never force anything, if my mind, inner thought & body is telling me i need a break, then i do just that. I allow my brain & ears to rest about 1-3 days tops. I Never over rest it’s always 1-3 days then I’m back at. I use that method so i wouldn’t drain my ears replaying the same song for hours at a time, i like to rest & come back to it so it can feel like it’s my first time hearing the project at hand.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
New Orleans Dj/Producer, known as “Jay Dawg” to most, also known as “Jay Diggy & Jay D.I”. Known for producing the popular “Rolling in the Deep (Bounce Remix)”, the song that shocked many & changed the sound of New Orleans Bounce. Also Known for the S ei8hty “Meet Me Half Way” Bounce Remix, Big Freedia “Excuse”, and also Nick Nack PattyWhack & Dancing Dan’s popular single “@That’s the 1”. Jay Diggy beats give you the raw & uncut street sound of New Orleans Bounce what we like to call “Project Muzik”. Even though he took advice from Older Producers like Dj Tank, Blaza, Blaq n Mild, Dj Money Fresh & Peacachoo. Jay Diggy still had to find his own sound & develop his own style. That’s how “Project Muzik” was started, Along with group Member & long time friend. The late Flipset Fred who passed away last year.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Patients, orignality, & consistency.
Since I’ve began producing in high school i always pride myself on being my in person & individual. Creating & maintaining my own lane & sound was, & still is my biggest accomplishment. Being consistent plays a big part in the producer I’ve become.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
Flipset Fred, God rest his soul my Twin, & group member.
