Meet Dr. Erica Wollerman

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dr. Erica Wollerman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dr. Erica below.

Hi Dr. Erica, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Great question! I definitely have my parents to thank for my work ethic… They are both hard workers and instilled in my from a young age the importance and benefits of working hard. They also did a great job providing me with opportunities to learn about work and earning money at a young age through babysitting and allowing me to work when I was pretty young. I have come to appreciate that they also did not shower me with gifts and things I wanted all the time as it helped me learn to provide for myself as well as not to value material possessions more than experiences. Thanks Mom and Dad!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
In 2017, I founded Thrive Therapy Studio, a group practice that is focused on meeting the needs of children, teens, parents, and families in San Diego. Fortunately, because we are now also well versed in telehealth (video) sessions, we now are able to provide services to clients throughout the state of CA!

I believe our practice is special because we are a small practice where we can collaborate often with each other to better serve our clients and their families. Often, we have clients who have family members working with multiple clinicians at our office, which gives many different perspectives and ways to help the family.

For me, it has been amazing to learn more about my specific focus as well as I specialize in supporting parents and helping them make their parenting experience more effective and less stressful. Currently, I am working on a new project that will launch this fall – a virtual parenting course!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. The ability to connect with people has been crucial for me! I credit this skill to my experience working as a waitress and in the restaurant industry in general while I was in high school and college. 2. Definitely my strong work ethic. Everything I have done, has been accomplished because I am not afraid to work really hard for something I am passionate about!
3. A deep passion for what I do. This is what keeps me going even when I am tired or worn out. I love building a community for my team at Thrive and for our greater community of clients.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
This is a great question and a wonderful opportunity to share a bit behind the scenes! For me, I think I have grown tremendously as a leader in the past year. I have worked really hard to be a more direct communicator so that there is clarity in my communication and expectations with my team. Interestingly, I have worked on setting boundaries at home with my 5 year old as well so it has been a huge opportunity for me to learn and grow.
