Meet Joseph Wyatt

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Joseph Wyatt a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Joseph , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

My work ethic is a tribute to the indomitable spirit of my family, deeply ingrained in the very fabric of who I am. From my beloved grandma Ella Wyatt and grandfather Ben Wyatt, whose unwavering dedication laid the foundation for BensBoyz, to my namesake drinks honoring the resilience and love of my grandma Ella, every drop of sweat and toil is a testament to their legacy.

Guided by the wisdom of my uncles and my father, William Wyatt, I have been schooled in the art of hard work, community building, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. My father’s mantra, “Hard work trumps talent, every time,” echoes in my soul, a guiding principle that has shaped our family’s journey in careers diverse and enriching.

With a wealth of experience gleaned from the trenches of the restaurant industry, under the tutelage of my father, a seasoned veteran with three decades of culinary prowess, I have imbibed the essence of dedication and perseverance. Every job, every challenge, has been a stepping stone in a path paved with the sweat and sacrifice of generations past.

As I reflect on my journey, from the bustling kitchens of my youth to the helm of my own endeavors, I am reminded of the profound impact of early lessons learned and the rich tapestry of experiences that have molded me into the hardworking individual I am today.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

BensBoyz was born out of a deep-rooted passion for family and a profound understanding of the culinary landscape, particularly within the comfort food sector, which we felt was sorely underrepresented on a national scale. As we traversed the halls of the National Restaurant Shows and food trade events, it became apparent that the segment dedicated to traditional soul food and comfort cuisine was conspicuously absent, despite the prevalence of such eateries in every corner of America.

Driven by a desire to fill this void and celebrate the rich cultural tapestry and distinctive flavors of the South, BensBoyz embarked on a mission to craft comfort food products that resonate with our heritage and culinary traditions. Our seafood line, featuring favorites like Joe’s Southern Salmon, Joe’s Southern Shrimp, and Aunt Dot’s Salmon Patties, has been met with resounding success, particularly in the vibrant Southeast region at Target.

In addition to our in-house creations, we are actively collaborating with various retailers to develop exclusive product lines tailored to their unique customer base. Our Southern Lemonade, a beloved flavor synonymous with the South, has captured the hearts and taste buds of many, paving the way for exciting partnerships with one of the world’s largest bottlers as we set our sights on a future brimming with innovation and growth.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Throughout my journey, I have cultivated a diverse set of skills, and I believe that as one progresses in business, certain qualities become more prominent and impactful. Currently, as I have evolved into a recognized national brand, I consider patience, understanding, and confidence to be the three most crucial attributes for success. The ability to exude self-assurance and value, while also fostering understanding and empathy towards others, is paramount in creating meaningful partnerships. Effective communication stands out as a defining trait that elevates individuals from good to exceptional. Engaging in open dialogues to discern the needs of all stakeholders and skillfully addressing them to ensure mutual satisfaction is the cornerstone of achieving lasting success. My advice to those embarking on their journey is to focus on developing these qualities diligently, as they serve as the foundation for building strong relationships and driving impactful outcomes in the business world.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

We are always seeking partners to collaborate with because we understand that growth relies on collective effort. In any endeavor, building something significant requires a cohesive team where individual contributions come together to create something greater than the sum of its parts. Whether it’s our restaurant, lemonade, seafood, or other product lines, we actively seek collaborations to fortify and enhance our brand. If you are interested in partnering or seeking advice, please feel free to connect with us to explore potential opportunities for collaboration and mutual growth.
