We were lucky to catch up with Joylin Crosser-olin recently and have shared our conversation below.
Joylin, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
For me, it was by surrounding myself with a supportive network. I reached out to my friends and family, who always believed in my potential. They ultimately became my cheerleaders, offering encouragement and celebrating my successes, no matter how small. I knew that growth often comes from stepping out of one’s comfort zone. So with their support, I felt a newfound sense of belonging and strength to pursue a small business and get myself out there.
The entrepreneur experience has been exhilarating and nerve-wracking, but I’ve pushed through my fears. I’ve learned to make more achievable goals for myself and my business and that sometimes taking risks, even when it didn’t lead to immediate success, was essential for personal growth.
I’m still developing my self-confidence and learning more about myself everyday!
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m Joy & I am the owner of Joy’s Creative Moments, serving the greater Twin Cities and beyond by creating beautiful balloon decor and creating wonderful lasting memories since June of 2022.
I’ve lived in Minnesota since I was 7, moved around MN quite a bit growing up and in my adult life but recently settled down in Mound with my husband & 2 children.
I’ve always loved being creative and after being in the corporate world, I needed to find my artistic outlet again, and balloons are it. I LOVE making garlands and seeing how happy it makes others fills my soul!
I offer a range of services, from affordable grab & go garlands to brand new balloon packages where clients can bundle services & save on bigger set-ups. Every service is customizable to make your moment, THE moment.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would say, 3 qualities that have been the most impactful in my journey so far are resilience, creativity and networking.
With resilience, starting a small business is no small feat! Being able to understand that there are high and lows in every journey and learning from those lows helps me stay motivated and persistent.
For creativity, being able to think outside the box or coming up with a great idea for a client allows me to see more opportunities where someone else might see it as an obstacle.
And networking has opened doors to new opportunities, partnerships, and resources to not only connect me with like-minded individuals but also industry experts which has been very beneficial to my journey.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My husband, Bernard. He has been my rock emotionally and professionally in this wonderful journey. He was a small business owner for over 10 years, so having his expertise help guide me on navigating entrepreneurship when it comes to money management, risk-taking, and being adaptable has been amazing. I am so blessed to have him there by my side.
