Meet Malone Taylor

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Malone Taylor. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Malone, so happy you were able to devote some time to sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our community. So, we’ve always admired how you have seemingly never let nay-sayers or haters keep you down. Can you talk to us about how to persist despite the negative energy that so often is thrown at folks trying to do something special with their lives?

I have always been someone who thrives to prove someone wrong who says I can’t do something, even if it is only to prove them wrong! I learned at a young age, to use the negative comments and lack of belief into fuel and motivation to continue working towards my goals. Not only that, but I know that my identity comes from who I am in Christ and at the end of the day, if I fail at everything else, I have gained everything I need in HIM. My faith not only keeps my grounded, but encourages me because I know I am doing what I am called to do!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am wife, daughter, sister, dog mom, and business owner. I am an interior designer and own Pinewood Design and Company. I am most passionate about growing my business through networking and creating spaces for my clients that they can not only be comfortable in, but THRIVE in. I specialize in renovations and new builds, but am also available to help clients who are just looking for a simple refresh. Pinewood Design and Company was created to provide people with the hospitality in interior design that I was raised on growing up in South Georgia. I truly strive to create spaces that my clients will enjoy spending time in, but that will also meet the needs they may have within a space.

I service not only the Charleston, SC area, but have clients in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Indiana. Along with the typical in person interior design services, I also offer E-Design services. This allows clients to take measurements and photos of their space and from there I can help guide them on new furnishings, decor, and light upgrades to the space. This provides the opportunity for people located anywhere in the country and any price point to get the interior design help they need. Most people assume that interior design is out of budget because of how it is portrayed on tv, but that is not the case anymore with E-Design services.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The most impactful thing I did for my career was work under an amazing woman and Interior Designer, Georgia Carlee with GCI Design. She selflessly led me, nurtured my skills and knowledge of interior design, and gave me all of the advice and encouragement she could have to get started in the industry. It is because of her leadership and guidance, that I have been able to start my own business at such a young age.

I would encourage people just getting started in the industry to assume they know nothing and absorb all the knowledge they can from people that have come before them. I also encourage experienced designers and people in the industry to help and pour into the younger generation of designers that are coming up. There is plenty of success to go around and your life will be more fulfilled, knowing that you were able to help the younger generation who will be the future of the industry.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I am always looking to grow my network of professionals. Anyone who works in the construction or housing industry would be great contacts for me. I am specifically interested in connecting to realtors, builders and contractors, mortgage lenders, and tradesmen. Having a strong network of reliable professionals is important to me and if someone reading this fits that description, I would love to connect!
