We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ataya Chapuis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ataya below.
Ataya , thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.
From a young age, I’ve always had a deep desire to support and uplift others. I vividly recall being drawn to help those around me and ensuring that no one felt excluded. This natural urge to include everyone and be a friend to all stems from the environment I grew up in. My grandmother, for example, was always opening her home to family and friends, offering unwavering support. Similarly, my parents demonstrated the same spirit of generosity. Their examples of kindness and creating a welcoming space where everyone felt valued and cared for have profoundly influenced me. My goal has always been to help others feel valued and connected, guiding me throughout my life.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I juggle many roles, but my most cherished one is being a mother to three wonderful children: two daughters, aged 21 and 17, and a son who is 12. They keep my life vibrant and full of energy, constantly reminding me of the importance of balance and resilience. Raising them to be compassionate yet strong individuals is one of the most challenging yet rewarding endeavors I’ve ever undertaken. It’s a journey that has profoundly shaped who I am today, both personally and professionally.
In addition to my role as a devoted mother, I have dedicated the past 10 years to a fulfilling career as an HR professional. This role is both challenging and rewarding, offering a broad spectrum of responsibilities within the field of Human Resources. Building strong relationships and improving workplace dynamics are at the heart of my role. In my HR career, I find satisfaction in making a meaningful impact on both individuals and the organization, and always excited by the opportunity to help create workplaces where everyone can thrive and grow.
Living in California, where the cost of living continues to rise, having multiple streams of income has become essential. This necessity led me to start my small business, Yuphoria, which I am incredibly passionate about. Yuphoria specializes in handmade, all-natural hygiene products, and we’ve been delighting our customers with our unique offerings for just over three years. Running Yuphoria is more than just a business to me—it’s a passion project. Each product is carefully crafted to add a touch of luxury to daily life. I’m optimistic about expanding Yuphoria, whether that means launching new products, hosting community events, or forming partnerships that fit our vision. To me, Yuphoria is a way to make a meaningful impact and share something special with the world. I’m committed to its growth and thrilled by the opportunities ahead.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, the three qualities that have made the biggest difference in my journey are adaptability, empathy, and a commitment to continuous learning. Being adaptable, empathetic, and dedicated to continuous learning has been crucial to my success in both HR and running my business. Embracing change and remaining open to new experiences has helped maintain resilience and effectiveness. I’ve always been one for building strong relationships through empathy, by actively listening and understanding others’ perspectives, which ultimately enhanced my interactions and decision-making. Additionally, maintaining a mindset of lifelong learning keeps me innovative and informed.
My advice is to stay curious, keep learning, and actively seek out new information to continually grow and adapt. Additionally, don’t forget to advocate for yourself along the way—asserting your needs and goals is crucial for personal and professional development. Remember, you’re never too old to learn and evolve
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, I focus on taking steps to recharge and regain clarity. I find it helpful to unplug from social media and take short walks, practice deep breathing, or simply step away from work to clear my mind and reduce stress. I also recognize the importance of seeking support from my network; when things become too much, I turn to those I trust and feel safest with. Discussing my challenges or gaining a fresh perspective can be incredibly beneficial. Self-care plays a crucial role for me, so I make sure to engage in activities that help me relax, such as meditation or spending quiet time alone. Additionally, when I feel overwhelmed, I focus on taking one day at a time and acknowledge that I am only human. Managing multiple roles as a parent, employee, and business owner requires balance. While others may see me as a superwoman, I remind myself that I am just one person. If things don’t get done, I try not to stress because I believe that everything ultimately works out for the best. I trust that all will come together in time, guided by a greater purpose.
