Meet Kiana Browne

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kiana Browne a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Kiana, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?

Being the only one in the room who looks like me, I’ve learned to be effective and successful by embracing my unique perspective and using it as a strength. I focus on the value I bring to the table, ensuring that my voice is heard by speaking up with confidence. Building strong relationships and allies is crucial, as is being prepared and knowledgeable in my field. I also make a conscious effort to listen and understand others, which helps bridge any gaps that may arise from differences. Resilience and perseverance are key, as is staying true to my identity while adapting to the environment. Ultimately, I view being different as an opportunity to stand out and make a meaningful impact.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

What excites me the most about what I do is mention something unique or special about my work.,

Right now, I’m particularly excited about highlight any developments—upcoming events on this November coming up which I will show my arts for sell in studio located in North Hollywood .

Ultimately, I I’m incredibly passionate about my art works and I look forward to continuing this journey with the support of art lovers .

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Reflecting on my journey, the three most impactful qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge have been:

1. **Resilience**: The ability to persevere through challenges has been crucial. In any field, setbacks are inevitable, but resilience helps you push through difficult times and emerge stronger. My advice to those early in their journey is to cultivate a mindset that views challenges as opportunities to learn and grow. Regularly reflect on your experiences and use them as fuel to keep moving forward.

2. **Continuous Learning**: Staying curious and committed to learning has been key. Whether it’s acquiring new skills, staying updated with industry trends, or learning from others’ experiences, this habit has kept me adaptable and innovative. For those just starting out, I recommend dedicating time to learning every day—be it through formal education, mentorship, or self-directed exploration. Embrace the idea that you’re never done learning.

3. **Effective Communication**: Being able to clearly articulate ideas, listen actively, and connect with others has been invaluable. Communication is not just about speaking or writing well; it’s about understanding your audience and conveying your message in a way that resonates. For beginners, I suggest practicing both verbal and written communication regularly. Seek feedback, engage in public speaking opportunities, and always strive to understand the perspectives of those you’re communicating with.

“*Resilience**: Start small by setting and achieving daily goals. Over time, build my ability to handle bigger challenges by reflecting on past experiences and understanding that setbacks are part of the journey.
**Continuous Learning**: Find areas of my work or interest that excite me the most and dive deeper into the workshops, and books to expand my knowledge. Networking with industry professionals can also provide invaluable insights.
Communication**: Practice is key. Engage in discussions, present my ideas to friends or and don’t shy away from constructive criticism. Understanding my audience and tailoring my message to them can greatly enhance communication skills.

By focusing on these areas, I’ll be better equipped to navigate the complexities of my career and achieve long-term success.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

When I feel overwhelmed, I use a few strategies to regain control and calm my mind:

1. **Break Tasks Down**: I break down what needs to be done into smaller, manageable tasks. This makes everything feel less daunting and helps me prioritize.

2. **Take a Break**: Sometimes stepping away for a short period—whether it’s a walk, a few deep breaths, or a quick meditation—can help reset my mind and reduce stress.
