Meet Sarah Moser

We were lucky to catch up with Sarah Moser recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

My strong work ethic is deeply rooted in the example set by the influential figures in my life, particularly my mother and both of my grandfathers.
Growing up as the child of a single mother, I witnessed firsthand the incredible work ethic and determination my mom displayed to provide for our family. She always worked and taught me to be professional and present my best self. Seeing her tireless commitment to supporting us taught me the value of hard work and perseverance from a young age.
I also draw inspiration from the entrepreneurial spirit and industrious nature of my paternal grandfather, who ran a successful leather boot-making business. Observing his ability to build something from the ground up, as well as his dedication to his craft, further reinforced the importance of a strong work ethic in achieving one’s goals.
Additionally, my maternal grandfather’s career in the military as a mechanic and provider for his family demonstrated to me the significance of a steadfast work ethic. His willingness to put in long hours and tackle challenging tasks to care for his loved ones has deeply influenced my own approach to work and life.
Combining the examples set by these influential figures – my resilient single mother and my two hardworking grandfathers – has instilled in me a profound appreciation for the power of a strong work ethic. Their legacies of determination, resilience, and commitment to supporting their families have profoundly shaped my own drive and desire to excel in my entrepreneurial endeavors and interior design work at Pink Pueblo Designs.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I created Pink Pueblo Designs in 2020, pivoting from being furloughed from my retail job and navigating a new world with the COVID-19 Pandemic. I always wanted to develop my interior design firm, and 2020 allowed me to finally chase that dream as the world slowed down and everyone was spending time at home.

After graduating from The University of Texas at San Antonio, I took on a career in operations and marketing and loved working behind the scenes. I had an opportunity to switch gears and become self-employed as a real estate and renovation team project manager. I jumped on it, even though I had zero experience flipping and selling houses. This role is where my love for interior design began. Working on old abandoned houses and bringing them back to life with new paint and tile was thrilling and fulfilling to see those before and after pictures. Working with investors, I usually had a tight renovation budget. I worked primarily with real estate investors who wanted the best ROI and didn’t care about the design and finish-outs. I was limited to using basic materials and tight budgets, which inspired and planted the seed for me that one day I could design for homeowners who wanted to transform their homes into their sanctuary. I wanted to work with clients who would be living in these spaces and wanted to collaborate and design with the homeowner. A global pandemic provided me with reflection, time, and space to create Pink Pueblo Designs.

What sets us apart from others is we get to know our clients and spend a lot of time getting to know them, their house, and their design style. I’m a true believer that home takes time, and you shouldn’t rush the process. We take the time to get to know you and your style and help you piece together unique finds that bring your personality to your home.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

As I reflect back on my entrepreneurial journey with Pink Pueblo Designs, three key qualities and skills stand out as being instrumental to my success: resilience in the face of rejection, trusting my intuition and embracing an adventurous spirit.
The ability to bounce back from rejection has been invaluable. Early on, I faced numerous setbacks as I worked to establish my brand. Rather than let those rejections discourage me, I learned to view them as valuable redirection. Each “no” helped me refine my pitch, better understand my market, and identify new avenues to explore. I advise aspiring entrepreneurs to develop a thick skin and see rejection as an opportunity for growth, not defeat.
Equally important has been my willingness to listen to my gut instincts. There have been many times when my rational mind urged caution, but my intuition pushed me to take a calculated risk. I encourage others to cultivate self-awareness and trust their inner voice, even when it goes against conventional wisdom.
Finally, the adventurous spirit that led me to start my own firm in the first place has been a driving force throughout my journey. By constantly seeking out new challenges and opportunities to expand my skillset, I’ve been able to keep my work dynamic and fulfilling. Taking chances, whether it’s trying a daring new design technique or expanding retail, has allowed me to stay inspired and innovative. My advice would be to never stop exploring, experimenting, and embracing the unknown – that’s where the most rewarding discoveries lie.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

The book that has had a profound impact on both my personal and professional development is “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz. This book was gifted to me by my mother, who recognized its potential to shape my worldview and provide a moral compass for navigating life’s challenges.
Of the four core agreements outlined in the book, these three in particular have become deeply ingrained in how I approach both my entrepreneurial journey and my everyday life:
Be impeccable with your word. This agreement has been especially transformative for me as a business owner. I’ve come to recognize the power of language – both in my interactions with clients, partners, and employees, as well as the way I speak to myself. By being mindful of my words and committing to honesty and integrity, I’ve built a reputation of trustworthiness that is invaluable in the highly competitive world of interior design and home decor.
Don’t take anything personally, this agreement has been a lifeline. Instead of internalizing setbacks or letting negative feedback derail me, I’ve learned to detach and maintain a healthy perspective. I now understand that other people’s reactions often say more about them than they do about me or my work.
Always do your best. This simple yet profound notion has become a north star for me. I strive to give 100% effort in every task, project, and interaction, knowing that as long as I’m operating from a place of authenticity and diligence, I can feel proud of my work – regardless of the outcome. This commitment to excellence has pushed me to continuously grow, innovate, and raise the bar for myself and my team.
“The Four Agreements” has provided me with an enduring framework for living and working with intention, clarity, and self-compassion. Its timeless wisdom has helped me navigate the highs and lows of entrepreneurship, and I continue to return to its lessons as a reliable source of guidance and inspiration. I would highly recommend this book to anyone seeking to deepen their self-awareness and align their actions with their values, both in business and in life.
