We recently connected with Harrison Tran and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Harrison with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic comes from my parents and my swimming career. My parent came over to America as war refugees in 1975 and had to earn everything. They imparted this discipline into my lifestyle from a young age.
As a swimmer for 16 years with Olympic dreams, I had to hold myself to a high standard day in and day out while training and also holding myself to a high standard as a student all through college. I grew to love working hard, and this is something that enables me to relish in and excel during challenges.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am an actor and cooking content creator, in addition to being a financial analyst. My creative work in acting and cooking content go hand in hand.
Acting is my number 1 passion, but I found that creating cooking content that packages storytelling within has helped me expand the ways in which I can express myself as an actor. It’s allowed me to grow more comfortable in using my voice as an instrument (my original reason for starting to create content). I enjoy sharing recipes from my cultures as a Vietnamese-American and as a Texan.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I believe that honesty, perseverance, and humility are crucial.
Honesty allowed me to be honest with myself and understand what I truly wanted to do, then make the leap. It also allows me to accept when I need to improve something, and take constructive criticism.
Perseverance is self-explanatory. It has helped me endure difficult times, challenges, and periods of things not happening as quickly as I’d like.
Lastly, humility has helped me approach things with a growth mindset and be good to others. I think it’s about thinking less of myself, and more about others, and the ideal person that I should try to be for others.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My parents always take everything with a cup of salt, rather than a grain of salt. What this means is that they are always skeptics and question all beliefs.
I think this is healthy, as long as you are honest and realistic, because this kind of curiosity allows us to learn and grow.
