Meet Matteo Ribaudo

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Matteo Ribaudo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Matteo below.

Matteo, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience comes from my family and my participation in wrestling in High School.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m an Italian-American filmmaker. From childhood, I have always been an entrepreneur. I used to sell bubble gum with my best friend Chris in 7th grade—twenty-five cents a piece—we made bank. In high school, I excelled in sports and wrestling. Wrestling taught me about setting goals and never quitting on myself. When I went to college, I pursued sports medicine and film studies. After college, I set out to have dual careers, using both my left and right brain. I write, direct, and produce feature films. My work has been seen all over the world, and I’ve received some accolades along the way. I continue to grow as an artist.

My scripts and films range from thriller horror to dark comedy. In the world of wellness, I have worked with professional athletes, celebrities, and many others from all walks of life. I use a functional and holistic approach to wellness—spirit, mind, and body—to create a balanced life. Many people who meet me say I’m a type A personality with a sarcastic, dry sense of humor. I’m also a well-rounded chef in the kitchen. As a family, we have always surrounded ourselves with love and food. Pizza is one of the great meals we make, and I built my own pizza oven in the back to prove it.

Currently, I’m looking for like-minded people to help me create my next films. Slated is a dark comedy called Sunday Dinner, about family, food, and foul play. I also have a couple of thrillers called Doll X and Maiden Mother Crone that are sure to be hits.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Being resilient in your journey is important. Never take “no” for an answer or a rejection personally. It’s harder to do when you’re a creative. With resilience can come stubbornness, so be open to productive and constructive input. Do not listen to destructive or abusive commentary. Be open-minded, especially when you’re the expert in the room. When you fail, before you pick yourself up, learn what knocked you down first, and prepare to deflect that blow from happening again. You’ll likely be knocked down for another reason, but just don’t let it be the same mistake. Listen to people who have walked in the shoes you want to run in. Wisdom is your friend, but be careful—wise people sometimes come with a jaded past. Take the good parts and learn from them.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I’m looking for individuals who bring the same energy and drive to succeed in filmmaking as I do. I’m always eager to collaborate with other artists. Writers, Editors, Actors, etc. I also want like-minded, loyal, and honest business savvy people, who not only understand how to succeed in one of the most challenging professions in the world, but will also protect me creatively, financially, and spiritually. I will do the same for them.
