Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Christine Lalonde. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Christine , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I’ve struggled most of my life to find my way, trying to figure out what my purpose was. In and out of abusive relationships, raising children and not knowing who I was. When covid came along, it destroyed my business that I had built for 15 years and wasn’t sure what to do. I started learning to meditate and to find out what the buzz around manifesting was about. I fell into the rabbit hole and find not only my purpose but I found myself. Learning the journey of how to manifest and what that entailed was life changing for me. I learned to communicate with my higher self, with my ancestors, and my spirit guides. It opened a whole new world for me, I had wanted to film documentaries for over 20 years and then it was there! I woke up from a dream of my mother coming to me and then I had it, when I had no ideas for over 20 years, then all of the sudden I had an idea, I ran to my computer and created a production company and started my first documentary. I also had wanted to do a podcast but had no ideas for that either. But through that journey I had an Idea! Less than 3 years later I not only have 4 shows in pre-production, I have TWO documentaries that have been fully funded and distribution for them both! AND I have my podcast about to celebrate 3 years of weekly LIVE episodes and hundreds of thousands of listeners.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I tell true life stories that I hope can inspire others to know they can do anything they set their minds to or help them in some way that they have struggled with. I want people to know that they are not alone, that others care and have been there and come out the other side.
My production company Chugwater Creek Productions is named after my hometown in Wyoming, to remind me where I came from and that I have come so far. That if an average small-town girl with nothing can do it, you can too.
The podcast, Fifty Shades of Bullshit is comedy driven but we cover some serious topics as well, but in general it’s to help people know they are not alone, to not take life too seriously and we can find who we are and learn to love ourselves first.
The two documentaries that have recently been funded and distribution acquired, are Darling of the Derby and From Rags to Riches to Rags, the Nolan Miller Story.
Darling of the Derby is about the first Female Jockey to race in the Kentucky Derby, Diane Crump is a true inspiration, and she is a powerhouse of a woman who changed history.
Nolan Miller was a famous fashion designer from the 70’s/80’s/90’s who brought fashion into the average home through Dynasty, Charlies Angels, Love Boat, to name a few. He became a household name like no other fashion designer through American television. He also led a double life that is truly fascinating.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Learning to trust myself, to love who I am and to believe that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. Having the knowledge that I can trust what I know without second guessing my choices or decisions has changed everything for me.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
When I first started working on my first documentary I was reaching out to numerous people and celebrities who would be amazing to interview for the doc. I found George Romero (producer / director) and reached out to him. He not only took a chance and talked to me but he really challenged me and helped me grow as a filmmaker. George is a natural teacher and we bonded from the start. I had no idea how to make a sizzle reel when I started, but I made one and I showed him what I did. He then took the time to go through it bit by bit and talked to me about the changes that were needed, the most important elements that are required. He was patient, kind and became an incredible mentor and brother to me.
