Meet Marissa Hitt

We were lucky to catch up with Marissa Hitt recently and have shared our conversation below.

Marissa, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

Each one of us is “the only one in the room” because everyone is unique. We each have our own skills and experiences, & we all have a purpose. Every journey is unique.

I began an art business & showed my work in galleries at the age of 5. Fast forward several years later, I started a new art business, Melane & Co. In many rooms, I am the youngest. Being the youngest in the room is a great conversation starter, but so is being the oldest in the room, or anywhere in between. I always want to meet new people, learn about their endeavors, and spread joy as an artist & entrepreneur.

It is a true gift to have the opportunity to learn about each others’ skills, experiences, & personalities. When we enter rooms with the understanding that each individual has their own set of gifts, we can find both professional & relational success together.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

When I was younger, my days were an array of creativity and joy. Time was comprised of painting nature scenes, spending time outside, & looking at illustrated children’s books while cuddling with the family dogs.

I didn’t know it back then, but I was receiving essential inspiration.

The influences I had as a child shaped my lifestyle business, Melane & Co. I like to call my art company more than a business, but a lifestyle. A lifestyle is a part of our every day. Melane & Co.’s cards, wall prints, custom pet portraits, & custom floral paintings represent the innocence & joy of childhood.

The way we decorate our lives matters.

One of the most exciting additions to Melane & Co. is the arrival of canvases. I can create custom pet and floral paintings on canvases & watercolor paper. That being said, Melane & Co.’s watercolor paper days are limited. Putting watercolor paint to canvas is incredibly exciting, because my commissioned paintings have gained an elevated look through this approach. My artwork is accentuated on canvases, making any pet portrait or floral painting even more detailed & delightful.

Through Melane & Co., I have the excitement & honor of creating art pieces that represent more than happiness, but a youthful joy. A kind of joy that comes naturally for children, yet can be cultivated at any age.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Humility, creativity, & determination are skills & areas of knowledge that have been beneficial to me & also for Melane & Co.

For example, humility is a trait that requires us to be servant-hearted. As a lifestyle business owner, I spread the joyful message, values, & artistry of Melane & Co. because I desire to bring more light into others’ lives. It is my mission to help others cultivate their surroundings with sweet nature scenes, memories of their pets, & paintings of a favorite flower or meaningful bouquet. Humility is evident in the ability to serve others through our actions, decisions, & the skills the Lord gives us. With such a humility, we can overlook personal insecurities, doubts, & trying circumstances with the intent to help those around us.

It takes creativity to help others. We use creativity when we think of ways we can serve others. Moreover, we use creativity more often than we think. Creativity isn’t confined to picking up a paintbrush. Whether you’re an artist like me or a mother of 3, your lifestyle is an art, because you influence others. Artistry is a lifestyle.

Determination is necessary for our day-to-day lives. When we are determined to humble ourselves to become servant-hearted & creative, we have the opportunity to further nurture a lifestyle we love. Oftentimes, we have to shift our perspectives to further grow humility, creativity, & determination.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

It is a true joy to collaborate with fellow business owners, creatives, lifestyle-oriented entrepreneurs, & public figures. Whether you have a large profile or a small profile, I would love to connect with you.

We can feature one another on our blogs, record a podcast episode together (please note: I don’t host a podcast show myself, but I would love to offer life stories & advice for your listeners), or pursue a creative project together.

I am working on a large project, & I am looking for influencers, lifestyle-oriented personal brands, & public figures who share Melane & Co.’s values.

This limited opportunity involves free custom paintings!

If you are interested, I am eager to determine if our endeavors align, & I am beyond excited to hear from you. I greatly appreciate collaboration recommendations, as well:
