Meet Madison K

We recently connected with Madison K and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Madison , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

My purpose was actually a happy accident! I got sick in my early 20s and found myself at home a lot.. however I couldn’t just sit around and do nothing so I started baking! Then realized I can’t just be making baked goods all day and Stumbled upon cookie decorating! My first cookies were not cute but the more I decorated the better they became… and definitely think they were a major part of my healing process as well! Next thing I knew I completely fell in love with making decorated cookies and started gifting to family/friends then started an instagram and next thing you know I had a cookie business !!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I own a bakery in Philadelphia where I specialize in fun custom desserts for all life’s special occasions! I make delicious custom cookies, cakes, and cupcake decorated with as much color, candy, and fun as I can make them! Besides custom desserts I have a beautiful storefront filled with toys and candy on top of all the baked goods! We do monthly themes where I decorated the bakery and filled it will treats to match! A few of my favorite themes are Harry Potter, Disney day, and Hocus Pocus but seriously I love them all with our next theme being Beetle Juice Day for the new movie! We also make the classics like our yummy chocolate chip cookies and snickerdoodles that are always available for walk ins! And I truly feel like the luckiest girl in the world where I get to do what I really love to do and just create beautiful sweet fun desserts! And feel like the neighborhood Willy Wonka!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Practice makes perfect! The more time I spent on my cookie craft the better I got! And to see my skills improve just made me want to work harder!! I really jumped into opening a bakery probably on the early side but that is my personally I get an idea and just kind of jump in full force! And I tell everyone that nothing worth having is easy and my first year I probably cried everyday… as I was working crazy long hours, still trying to figure out my business model, and realizing you can’t make everyone happy! But for anyone starting their journey give your self a chance! Not everything is going to be perfect but you will find your flow and everything will just start to click! Don’t worry about noise around you and just keep going!!! You’re doing better than you think you are!!

How would you describe your ideal client?

I am always looking for the fun ones! I try not to follow the “baking trends” and really stick to my own style which is loud bold and colorful! My favorite is when I get a return client that says “this is my theme I totally trust you do your thing” that allows me to have fun creativity where my creations usually turn out the best!
