Hi Niy , so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?

I’ve gained knowledge by being who I really am. I think that if you are the most unique person in the room, you can use it to your advantage by embracing your uniqueness and not feeling like you have to fit into a mold. I do occasionally feel a little uncomfortable, but that just indicates that you’re growing and attempting something different.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m an influencer who first gained popularity in 2021 on TikTok. I joined college to study fashion design after I graduated from high school in 2022, and I work as a stylist now. In addition, I serve as a brand ambassador for a number of companies, including Pretty Little Thing, Boohoo, and Shein. I receive packages each month, which I advertise on different platforms. In along with modeling, I want to start acting once I’m in the industry.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I enhance my interpersonal, commercial awareness, and customer service skills. I believe that in order to succeed in a career as a stylist or model, one needs to have positive interpersonal communication skills. To be able to achieve that, in my opinion, requires growth and self control. As a stylist, you need to have strong interpersonal skills in order to help your clients feel pleased and confident. These abilities also allow you to offer advice and compliments. Though you wouldn’t want to put your customer in anything that is out of style, I do believe that having a strong understanding of current trends and fashions is another benefit of having a commercial awareness.

How would you describe your ideal client?

My dream client would be someone like Jayda Wayda; she embodies confidence and looks fantastic in everything she wears. I want to create looks that are girly but still dramatic and eye-catching. She definitely seems like she would go with my style. Despite the fact that I haven’t styled a male yet, Lil Uzi Vert would be my ideal man because of his flashy and feminine style.
