Meet Deric Bolden

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Deric Bolden. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Deric below.

Hi Deric , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

“After years of battling alcoholism and enduring four near-fatal withdrawal seizures, God led me to Racing for Recovery in Toledo, OH. Finishing my final rehab journey at Eudaimonia Homes in Austin, Texas, this pivotal moment transformed my life, helping me discover my true purpose. Today, I’m a thriving author of three children’s books and passionately dedicated to my art, embodying a story of redemption and faith.”

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Since childhood, drawing and embracing a unique perspective have been central to my life. Today, I create 3-D abstract art with acrylic paint, which deeply reflects who I am. My art allows me to connect with people of all ages, spreading positivity through interactive events where I set up a giant canvas for everyone to paint together. Alongside my art, I’ve authored children’s books that address struggles and overcoming challenges, including those related to sobriety. My work has been showcased globally, including at Imagination Station and iBooks Library, and I’ve been accepted into notable art fairs such as Wild About Art at the Toledo Zoo and the Big Four Arts Festival in Louisville, Kentucky. I am deeply grateful for the unwavering support of my friends and family, who have been instrumental in my journey and success.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Stay patient and consistent in your efforts, even if progress seems slow. Trust that your time will come with commitment and faith in your abilities. Embrace risks, stand out, and be unique to unlock new opportunities and growth.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

In the past year, I’ve rediscovered myself, explored new interests, and focused on self-accountability and mental health through exercise. This journey has helped me reconnect with my true self after years of alcohol use, requiring a strong desire to change. My family’s support has also been instrumental in this process. All of this has unfolded through God’s timing.
