Meet Greg Moore

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Greg Moore. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Greg, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?

That is a loaded question LOL I have to admit that I can find inspiration in almost anything. I am a person that is constantly searching for inspiration. Those spaces in which I have found inspiration in the past have ranged anywhere from cartoons, my own personal experiences or even conversations with friends/family. When it comes to music, I pride myself on being as honest and raw with whatever I am writing about. Specifically because life is honest and raw. I’ve found that the most relatable music I’ve made, has come from drawing from those spaces.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’d like to first begin with my name, The ART MuZeum. I am a Hip Hop artist from Hartford, CT. Previously, my name was A.R.T. an acronym which stood for, Against Reality’s Terms. However, when maturing in the business side of being an artist, I decided I needed a name that stood out more. If you were to search for A.R.T. you’d get a ridiculously long list. To dive a little deeper, I also am a graphic designer, clothing designer, actor, song writer, director etc. I felt, keeping with the theme of Art, I’d like the name of The ART MuZeum, whereas, I AM the museum, meaning, I HOUSE all these outlets of creativity under the same roof. They are all an extension of who I am. I added the capital “Z” in MuZeum to standout further.

I design all of my own Music related merchandise. I also have a separate clothing line that is a Casual Collegiate themed line that is closely related to my artist name, The ART MuZeum University which will release it’s Fall | Winter Collection very soon. In the past few years, I have been the most productive that I have been in my entire career. I am a part of a Short Film, “Ride or Die”, set to Premiere in the end of Summer. I have also put out an EP, Albums and a number of Singles and Videos in recent few years. I am currently promoting a series of Song releases under the theme of “Nobody’s Listening Anyway…” That concept was born from the feeling of frustration from an artist standpoint and has garnered some of my most thought provoking, relatable and experimental music of my career. Singles from the “Nobody’s Listening Anyway…” Era is released the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month. Most recently, I was a part of a music recording session headed off by Cam Fletch where he set out to record a Full Length Album from scratch, in a 24 hour period. The album of that same name, “24 Hrs” was released one week after recording which is a remarkable accomplishment. As for the immediate future, I am very excited to release the full length album “Nobody’s Listening Anyway…” which will be the culmination of the series.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

To be honest, I’d say there’s just one thing that’s most important in all areas of creativity. And that is to be yourself. It sounds cliche, I know. But the truth is, you’d be surprised how many people can relate to your story. Who YOU are as a person and the things you’ve been through. One of the biggest lessons I’ve come to accept as an artist, is that everything isn’t for everyone. I feel like sometimes as an artist, you tend to compare yourself to others who have been successful in your space of creativity. That is the most draining and diminishing thing you can do as an artist. What you think, matters. How you feel, matters. The way you see the world. matters. And all of those things, will attract YOUR people. And there is no better connection in the world as an artist.

Oh, I’m sorry LOL. The other very important thing that comes to mind is, keep people that uplift and pour into you. Life will take enough from you. Who you surround yourself with and engage with and create with is a lifeline to your creative process and honestly, who you are as a person.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

The most impactful thing my parents did for me was, not do things for me. Not to the point of neglect or anything, but as far as things that I wanted for myself and out of life, I learned from a very early age that I had to go out and get it myself. I started out at young age, working to get clothes, sneakers etc that I wanted and learned to not rely on others. That way of thinking actually translated to all areas of my life and not always in the most positive of ways. I’ll explain. It garnered a tough exterior whereas I would NEVER ask people for help. I guess, if I couldn’t get or do something on my own, I assumed I just am not supposed to have it. Or it made my path to accomplish certain goals in life way more difficult than it would have been had I just asked for help. I am a person who hates to feel like a burden to people. It’s a feeling I really despise and avoid at all costs. But, I was reminded by very close friends, that people who care about you, won’t ever make you feel bad about asking for help or throw it in your face later down the line. And that is something that has helped me immensely. As an independent artist, you wear many hats. And I know it’s the “cool” thing to say you’ve done it by yourself. But NO successful person does it alone. And that is something I deal with on a daily basis.
