We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Erin Gavin a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Erin , thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
I approach my career with optimism because life is too short to think any other way. I believe that dreams do come true, but they require effort and determination. The satisfaction of working towards a goal is its own reward. I strive to enjoy the successes and learn from the challenges along the way.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am from Scotland came to Los Angeles by myself at a young age. Just me and my suitcase and a mission to become a great actress in the capital of entertainment. It was exhilarating!
Taking that leap of faith led to play the lead (Marilyn Monroe) in a Hollywood hit play, playing Marilyn off Broadway winning top 10 USA show and playing the lead on a West End of London theatre run then doing keynote speeches at Stanford university, silicon valley entrepreneurs largest convention and the Clinton foundation, modelling for top brands including Eva Mendes and Saints clothing line, doing several movies, developing businesses on the side then getting a recording artist deal. I have been making amazing music also writing, producing and directing a film which is now Oscar qualified, winning the hearts of many prestigious film festivals and getting a theatrical release. Life is good!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Street wise mindset, working on the creativity, business head and the drive! You will have a level of success with these 4 elements.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My Mum and my longest best friend since I was 4 yrs old, Julie McFadden. They will always have my best interest at heart and give me the best advice but I am lucky as I have many close friends and family members who have my back.
