Meet Matthew Carr

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Matthew Carr. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Matthew , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

I had to get into the mindset of being the one positive factor in a negative situation. Whether it’s my own situation or someone else’s situation that I have a part in, I pride myself on spreading positivity and encouraging myself and others that things will get better.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Through lots of development within myself I found myself enamored with almost anything that relates to Art. It could be Fashion Design, Cosplay, Music, Graphic Design, Photography, if it’s somewhere in the realm of Art then I love it.

I wanted to create my own Art but I didn’t want to stop at just one form. I wanted to participate in what I loved the most but be able to express myself in multiple ways. When finally creating my brand, I decided on the name “AntiPerf”. The core inspiration of AntiPerf is my fascination for finding the beauty in imperfections and mistakes. I find beauty in jagged edges, rips and tears, coloring outside the lines and the scale being slightly unbalanced. I believe that there’s a way to make every mistake into something beautiful.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Live Wholeheartedly In Your Truth – It is best that you develop a stable relationship with yourself and become confident in who you are. Otherwise it becomes easy for others to mold you into what they want you to be.

Don’t Limit Yourself – One thing I love about me is that I’m multifaceted and I always want to learn more. I don’t believe in putting myself in a box. I want to know everything and have all the skills under my belt.

Keep Going – I’ve had so many times in my life where I felt like giving up but with age, I started to tell myself and others that if you give up and throw your life away, you’ll never see the finish line.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I’m always down to collaborate and work with fellow creatives and artists, big or small. This years has already blessed me with a few collaborations and acquaintances.

My biggest idol is TS Madison. Listening to her over the years has inspired me and taught me so much about how I would like to navigate around creating my own business and brand. It is thanks to her that I created my first vision board.

I would love to collaborate with Big Sexy (bigsexyofficial on IG). He reminds so much of myself with how confident and self aware he is.

There’s a very talented photographer that I’ve always wanted to collaborate with, He goes by Scottie (eyesofscottie on IG). I’ve been an admirer of his work for quite some time and I actually have an idea that I would like to bring to life and I’m saving it specifically for him.

A famous brand that I would absolutely love to collaborate with is Dr. Martens. I would absolutely love to have a Dr. Martens x AntiPerf Collection one day.

There are many people that I would love to get interviewed by but my top pick is Terrell Grice. He’s super funny and I love how he interviews.

There are many more collaborations that I am manifesting and speaking into existence.

Where do you get your resilience from?
