Meet Dr. Wendy Labat

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dr. Wendy Labat a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Dr. Wendy , thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.
My generosity comes from the example my mother set for me as a child. She was always willing to give and help people in need without expecting anything in return. Mom instilled in us personal values, empathy, and a genuine desire to help others. More importantly, she taught us that if you give from a place of genuine benevolence, God will reward you. Mom told us to put ourselves in the other person’s shoes. As a result, I am a firm believer in treating others the way I want to be treated and that you reap what you sow.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I empower entrepreneurs and executives to overcome anorexic income, obese debt, and other financial ills to become financially free to live the life they desire with my Financial Cures System. There is focus on mental health, physical health, and even social health (since the pandemic), but little emphasis on financial health. People confuse and conflate financial health with financial literacy. The difference is that you can be financially literate but still have poor even fatal financial health. There are six obstacles people face when trying to improve their financial health. 1. Mindset/knowledge deficiency; 2. Lack of control over their finances; 3. Lack of proper protection to prevent financial ruin; 4. Impact of tax codes and laws; 5. Global economic impact; and 6. Taking action.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge that were most impactful in my journey, are:

1. Integrity – This is a lifelong journey that encompasses cultivating honesty, trustworthiness, and moral principles. You must take time to self-reflect on your values, beliefs, and the kind of person you aspire to be at each stage of life. Align your actions with your principles to avoid contradictions and hypocrisy. Learn from your mistakes and be accountable for your actions. Build trust with others by keeping your word and following through on your commitments. Be reliable and dependable. Your word is more valuable than money.
2. Persistence/consistency – These are vital traits when it comes to getting things done and achieving goals. These qualities involve the determination to continue pursuing goals despite challenges and setbacks. They also require a commitment to maintaining a regular dedicated effort over time. You must set clear goals, effective plans, and keep a positive mindset. Staying focused, motivated, and disciplined empowers you to make progress and achieve the desired outcomes.
3. Preparation and knowledge – These set the stage for success and increase the chances of achieving your goals. This is an ongoing process. Thorough preparation and continual learning empower you to be ready to pivot amid setbacks and challenges. Connecting with mentors, networks, and relevant communities provides a support system to enhance your skills, experience, and knowledge in practical settings.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful things my parents did for me were to provide me with unconditional love, emotional support, guidance, and exposure to various places and experiences that created a solid foundation for my emotional well-being and personal growth. They offered me reassurance and were there for me during both my triumphs and challenges. Additionally, they stressed the importance of self-confidence, independence, empathy, benevolence, gratitude, positivity, and humility. They fostered a nurturing and educational environment that helped me develop essential skills and values that allow me to be all that I can be. One of the most important things my parents did for me was to encourage me to continually strengthen my faith in God and remember what God has for me is for me. These values still impact and shape my life today.
