Meet Jermeika Moody-Martin

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jermeika Moody-Martin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Jermeika, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

My Resilience: A Reflection on Its Roots

Resilience has been a defining trait in my journey, and it is deeply rooted in several key areas of my life: personal experiences, mindset, personal values and beliefs, self-care practices, my faith in Jesus, and my academic achievements.

Personal Experiences:
My resilience has been significantly shaped by the challenges I’ve faced over the years. Two significant milestones for me were completing a four-year journey to earn my Bachelor of Science degree in Business with a Human Resource Management certificate and the process of building CUMI Natural Hair and Skin Line. These achievements required dedication, hard work, and perseverance, especially during tough times. Overcoming these challenges taught me the power of persistence and the importance of viewing setbacks as opportunities for growth rather than roadblocks.

Mindset:
A resilient mindset is essential in navigating the ups and downs of life and business. I have cultivated a mindset that embraces challenges with optimism and determination. This mental approach allows me to stay focused on my goals, even in the face of adversity. I see every challenge as a chance to learn, adapt, and emerge stronger, which is key to my resilience.

Personal Values, Beliefs, and Faith in Jesus:
My core values and beliefs, particularly my faith in Jesus, are the foundation of my resilience. My commitment to getting my bachelor’s degree and creating high-quality, natural products with CUMI stems from a deep belief in the power of nature and the importance of self-care. My faith in Jesus gives me strength, guidance, and the assurance that I am never alone in my journey. This spiritual foundation gives me a sense of purpose that drives me forward, even when the journey gets tough.

Self-Care:
Self-care is another critical component of my resilience. Taking care of my physical and mental health is essential to maintaining the energy and focus needed to tackle challenges. Whether through pampering myself in a self-care routine with CUMI Natural Hair and Skin Line products, exercise, prayer, mindfulness practices, or simply taking time to rest, self-care helps me recharge and stay resilient.

In summary, my resilience is the product of a combination of my past experiences, including earning my degree, a determined mindset, deeply held values, my faith in my Lord Jesus Christ, and a commitment to self-care. These elements together create a strong foundation that supports my personal life and growing my CUMI Natural Hair and Skin Line.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am the founder of CUMI Natural Hair and Skin Line, a brand dedicated to providing high-quality, natural products that nourish both hair and skin. What excites me most about CUMI is how we empower individuals to embrace their natural beauty while simplifying their self-care routines. Our products are more than just beauty items—they are a form of self-love and care that aligns with the growing awareness of the importance of natural, sustainable living.

A key highlight of my journey has been the resilience and determination I’ve developed along the way. Completing a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resource Management while building this brand has taught me the value of hard work and perseverance. My faith in Jesus and a solid commitment to my core values have been the foundation of my resilience, driving me forward even in challenging times.

We’re excited to announce some new additions coming soon to our product line, including an expanded range of nourishing and vibrant lip glosses, shampoos, and conditioners. Like everything else in our line, these products are crafted to be gentle yet effective, offering the best in natural care.

As we continue to grow, CUMI remains focused on expanding our product offerings while maintaining the high standards of quality and integrity that our customers have come to trust. We look forward to connecting with more individuals passionate about natural beauty and self-care.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back on my journey, I’ve realized that the path to success and fulfillment is often shaped by a few essential qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge that we cultivate over time. As a wife, mother, and entrepreneur, these elements have been instrumental in my professional life and in balancing the demands of family, faith and personal well-being. Here are the three that have been most impactful in my journey:

Adaptability: Embracing Change and Growth

Change is inevitable in life and business. As a wife and mother, adaptability has been essential in managing the dynamic nature of family life, where unexpected challenges often arise. Whether adjusting to my children’s needs or navigating the evolving relationship with my spouse, being adaptable has allowed me to maintain harmony at home.

Adaptability has been a cornerstone in my professional journey, particularly in developing CUMI Natural Hair and Skin Line. The beauty and wellness industry is ever-changing, constantly emerging new trends and consumer preferences. Being open to learning and embracing change has enabled me to pivot when necessary, ensuring that my business remains relevant and competitive.

Advice for Others:

Cultivate a mindset that welcomes change. The ability to adapt quickly and effectively is crucial in business and all areas of life. Whether you’re facing a shift in your business or changes at home, adaptability will help you navigate these challenges with resilience.

Persistence: The Power of Never Giving Up

Persistence has been the driving force behind many of my personal and professional achievements. Graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business and a certificate in Human Resource Management was no easy accomplishment, especially while juggling being a wife, mother and entrepreneur. Sometimes, the workload felt overwhelming, and balancing family, studies and entrepreneurship seemed impossible. However, the determination to achieve my goals, with the strength and grace of God, kept me going.

This same persistence has been crucial in building and sustaining my business. Entrepreneurship is a journey filled with ups and downs, and there were moments when giving up seemed like the easiest option. But persistence, strengthened by my faith, helped me push through the tough times, and each small victory fueled my determination to keep going.

Advice for Others:
Set clear goals and stay committed to them, even when progress seems slow, or obstacles seem impossible to overcome. Persistence is about keeping your eyes on the prize and moving forward, one step at a time, no matter how difficult the journey may become. Lean on your faith for strength and guidance. Remember always celebrate small and big wins!

Emotional Intelligence: Understanding and Managing Emotions

As a wife and mother, emotional intelligence has been invaluable in creating a loving and supportive environment for my family. Understanding my own emotions and those of my loved ones has allowed me to nurture deeper connections and resolve conflicts with empathy and care. This skill has been essential in maintaining a solid partnership with my spouse, where open communication and mutual understanding are key.

Emotional intelligence has played a significant role in my professional life, particularly in Human Resource Management and running my own business. It has helped me build strong relationships with clients and employees by fostering an environment of trust and respect. Managing emotions effectively has enabled me to make better decisions and lead compassionately.

Advice for Others:
Invest time in developing your emotional intelligence. This means becoming more self-aware, practicing empathy, and managing your emotions. Emotional intelligence enhances personal relationships and leads to more effective leadership and better business outcomes.

Conclusion

As I reflect on my journey, it’s clear that adaptability, persistence, and emotional intelligence have been the pillars of my success. These qualities, supported by my faith in Jesus Christ, have helped me navigate the complexities of being a wife, mother, and entrepreneur, allowing me to build a fulfilling life personally and professionally. For those early in their journey, my advice is to focus on developing these key areas. They will serve as a strong foundation, helping you to overcome challenges and achieve your goals, no matter where life takes you.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I am always open to partnering and collaborating with like-minded individuals who share a passion for empowering others and creating impactful, quality products. I am particularly interested in collaborating with individuals and brands that align with the values of CUMI Natural Hair and Skin Line, especially those who prioritize natural, holistic beauty and wellness solutions.

There are so many beautiful women I would love to collaborate with. If I must name two that have impacted my life so much, I would be honored to collaborate with trailblazers like Milano Di Rouge, who has successfully merged fashion with empowerment, or Sarah Jakes Roberts, whose work in faith-based empowerment and personal growth resonates deeply with my own journey. These women have created powerful platforms that uplift others, and there could be significant synergy in working together to create something extraordinary.

If you are reading this and are interested in collaborating, I would love to connect and explore how we can work together. You can reach out to me via my IG: @cumi_naturalhair or email: cumi.natural23@gmail.com.
