Meet Amber Brumfield

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amber Brumfield a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Amber, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

Overcoming imposter syndrome is a journey, not something that happens overnight. First, let’s understand what imposter syndrome is: it’s the persistent feeling that you don’t deserve your success or that you haven’t legitimately earned your achievements through your own effort or skill. When I encounter imposter syndrome, I make it a point to address the underlying concerns head-on. I focus on separating the facts from the fiction my mind creates. Often, I already have the tools I need, but it’s the self-doubt that holds me back.

To combat this, I’ve developed a habit of practicing ‘I am’ affirmations, engaging in positive self-talk, and constantly reminding myself that I am deserving of the opportunities I receive—and more. As a creative, it can be challenging to feel seen in certain spaces, but it’s crucial to reconnect with the original ‘why’ that drives you. I also lean on my faith, seeking guidance on where to start with my business projects, especially when the path isn’t clear at first. The ability to bring ideas to life is a powerful gift, and I’ve realized that my imposter syndrome doesn’t stand a chance against my determination to appreciate my own greatness.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Yes, I’m thrilled to share more about who I am and what my brand represents. I am the founder and photographer behind Yellowhite Photography, where I like to say I’m an artist first and a businesswoman second. Yellowhite Photography focuses on helping local businesses and brands enhance their online presence with rich, personality-driven photography that exudes clarity and sophistication. Whether I’m partnering with new businesses to capture ‘meet the team’ headshots or working with individual clients on branding photos for special occasions, I’m passionate about bringing out the best in every shot.

In addition to my photography work, I’m deeply committed to supporting communities, especially those focused on key issues like voting rights and protecting Black and queer spaces. I believe these moments are significant and deserve to be documented and preserved in history.

When it comes to personal branding, I aim to radiate that badass, boss-babe confidence. Life is short, and if you ‘crash out,’ as the kids say, the key is to get back up ten times stronger and keep moving forward—learning and improving along the way.

Next month, I’m excited to explore something new, and while I can’t reveal too much just yet, I can say that it’s an endeavor close to my heart. I’m both nervous and thrilled, but I know it will be a meaningful space where I can connect with others on a deeper level. Stay tuned for the announcement!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

As an artist first, creativity has been the driving force behind everything I do. It’s not just about taking photos; it’s about capturing a fire moment, a brand, or a person in a way that tells a compelling story. For anyone starting their journey, I’d say nurture your creativity—experiment, take risks, and don’t be afraid to break the mold.

The journey of an entrepreneur and creative is filled with highs and lows. Resilience is what keeps you going when things get tough. It’s about getting back up ten times stronger every time you fall. My advice is to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. Learn from your setbacks and use them to fuel your progress.

Being involved in my community has not only enriched my work but also provided a deeper sense of purpose. Whether it’s supporting causes like voting rights or protecting Black and queer spaces, giving back has been incredibly rewarding. For those early in their journey, I’d encourage you to find causes you’re passionate about and get involved. It will not only help you grow personally but also expand your network in meaningful ways.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Absolutely, I’m always open to collaborating with like-minded individuals and organizations. I’m particularly interested in partnering with businesses, nonprofits, and creatives who share a passion for storytelling, community empowerment, and creating impactful visual content. Whether you’re a brand looking to enhance your online presence through powerful imagery, a community organization focused on advocacy, or a fellow creative with a unique vision, I’d love to explore how we can work together.

If you’re interested in collaborating, the best way to connect with me is through my website, Yellowhite Photography, or by reaching out directly via social media. I’m excited to hear your ideas and see how we can create something amazing together!
