Meet Scott Donnelly

We recently connected with Scott Donnelly and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Scott, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

I have always had a strong work ethic. Growing up, my dad and my grandfather were great examples for me as far as how to work hard. Now that I am in my adult hood, my family is what drives my worth ethic. I always want to set a good example for my children, and show them that working hard does pay off.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am an indie author based out of central Ohio. I try to write in a variety of genres to keep my ideas fresh, different, and exciting, but I mostly operates within the realm of horror and science fiction. One of my books, “Cheater, Cheater”, has been adapted into a film which will release in the fall of 2024. Some other books that I am known for are “Sea Devil”, “Mothman: Return to Point Pleasant” and “The Whool”, which was a top-rated Creepypasta for quite a while. I am also the creator and head writer for the Micro Terrors: Scary Stories for Kids Podcast, in which I team up with professional podcaster, Darren Marlar (of Weird Darkness fame) to being new spooky stories for kids ears every week. Recently, I have tried my hand at screenwriting, and hope to explore that craft more in the near future.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, I can definitely say that determination, pride and self-enjoyment have been the most impactful qualities to have when it comes to my writing. To complete something, I need to be determined to do so, otherwise the project will fail. I need to have pride in what I do, because if I don’t, then my heart isn’t in it, and it that can also affect the final results. The most important quality, in my opinion, is self-enjoyment. I have always written for fun and because I want to and like not, not because I have to or am expected to. Once you take your own self-enjoyment out of the equation, it can fee like a job that needs to be done, and there won’t be much fun involved. That’s why I also write what I love, and what I personally would like to read.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

With the Micro Terrors: Scary Stories for Kids Podcast, we are always looking for guest authors to climb aboard and write stories. Most of the stories are written by me, so it’s always nice to have a new voice in the mix, and they usually go over very well with the audience. If you’re an author or any kind, and would like more information about how to be a guest author on the Micro Terrors Podcast, you can email me at [email protected]
