Meet Raven

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Raven. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Raven below.

Hi Raven, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

I came across a podcast, “The Tillage Podcast”, and one of the topics was on imposter syndrome. I really resonated with everything that was said, so I started listening to other topics from the same podcast. I came across another topic that put things more into perspective for me, it was about giving myself grace. By giving myself more grace, it gives me room to grow as an artist and as a person. Overall, grace gave me the tools to overcome imposter syndrome. I am good enough!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Hope everybody is having a great day! My name is Raven, the Whimsical Nightmare Goddess (WNG), and founder of WNG Artistry. I am a digital artist, illustrator, and creative based in North Carolina.

WNG Artistry is my creative business that allows me to create whimsical, horror-inspired designs for apparel, decor, accessories, and more.

I am currently working on new designs and trying out new mediums. I am very excited about our new arrivals and cannot wait for everyone to enjoy my whimsical nightmares!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The three important qualities/skills that have been the most impactful to me are grace, exploring new horizons, and practice, practice, practice!

Grace:
I have learned over the years to give myself more grace. This will allow for me to not be so hard on myself, and it helps quiet the inner critic.

Explore New Horizons:
It’s always easy to stick to what you know, but that’s how you miss out on great opportunities. Step out of your comfort zone and explore new horizons. There are opportunities for growth and you can acquire new skills in the process.

Practice! Practice! Practice!
The best way to improve or develop your skills is to practice. I have to constantly tell myself, “just do it, create!” I know I will thank myself later for this. Sometimes I will do drawing challenges or exercises to help improve my drawing techniques. In order to get better at drawing, you have to practice, practice, practice.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?

I have been taking Skillshare classes online to help elevate my art. Being able to incorporate shading, highlights, etc., you name it and Skillshare has a class for that! I am continuing to evolve as an artist, and I cannot wait to see how my art continues to evolve.
