We recently connected with Andre Scott and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Andre, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
The short answer is my family. I have witnessed consistent efforts from multiple members of my family, on both my maternal and paternal sides. My mother had me at an early age and raised me by herself. She provided a quality example of how to parent while working and pursuing an education. She never allowed me to slack off due to our circumstances. Her sister, my Aunt Diane, entered the military and served for 23 years before retiring. At which time she pursued higher education, meaningful employment, and further built her family structure. My grandmother worked non-stop until she was able to retire; then she went and obtained her GED. My great grand father Caleb Scott set the tone for our entire family through his stellar work and family contributions. He taught me how to provide for my family while being responsible for community development.
My father was incarcerated for the majority of my life but he regularly provided resources, support, guidance, and connections to help me get closer to my identified goals. My grandmother, aunts, uncles, and cousins displayed an unwavering commitment to employment, family, and community.
I learned to see tasks through to the end and give them my all regardless of my feelings or personal preferences.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I operate in multiple arenas. I am a Master’s level Mental Health Therapist currently providing services via my own practice, AbleVision Counseling and Consulting Services. We provide therapeutic support, mental health treatment, and business/life consulting. The most exciting part of the business if that I get to genuinely impact the lives of others through my perspective and skill set. The clarity and family feel that our agency generates is very unique. We also utilize cooperative economics, where each member is able to push their individual brands within the business framework. We are currently in the process of becoming licensed as an Outpatient Clinic.
I also create music via my artist development company Grown Men Entertainment(G.M.E.). I enjoy providing outlets and opportunities for others, music has been an extreme highlight for this process. I am also able to utilize the platform for ways of expression and connectivity. The most exciting part of this business is being able to watch others grow in their craft and when I get to perform in front of others. The ability to entertain others while experiencing a sense of relief is unmatched. I am preparing to release a new solo album titled, “Face2AName.” This will be an audio-biography of sorts.
Professionally, I function as the Behavioral Health Manager for a re-entry/violence prevention program for high risk individuals, as well as a Mental Health Director for a law firm. These positions give me the opportunity to expand my skills set, infuse quality therapeutic practices into unconventional settings, and increases the overall well being of those involved. These are special to me because mental wellness is often overlooked within the designated settings…it allows me to fully operate in my purpose.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Empathy/ability to relate to others
Honest/genuine approach
Cultural sensitivity/Awareness
My advice would be to start with self but end with others. Meaning focus on personal development, self-care, self esteem, etc. It is important for one to be familiar with their own being, responses, and triggers before they begin to engage in services or business efforts. This can help to guide their education, vocation, and relationship choices.
I provide services to a very diverse population so being able to process from their perspective and lifestyle has allowed me to be efficient and open to learning additional methods.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
An ideal client to me is someone that is willing to learn and put in the necessary work to make their desired change. This applies to both the therapy and music industries. It is extremely challenges when i am more invested in someone’s progress than they are. It often feels as if I’m pulling them along a predetermined path or pushing them in areas they have not honestly committed to. The process runs more smoothly and has a greater impact when the person is willing and able to participate in their development, holds themselves accountable to identified goals, and allows me to facilitate necessary discussions and interventions.
