Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Michael S. Garcia. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Michael S., thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic came from my traditional martial arts background. The more time you spend on the mat, lifting, stretching, sparring, etc. the better you get. It’s that simple. Talent only gets you so far and from what I have discovered in recent years, can even act as a hindrance.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
As of right now I am focused on building my team and coming together to tell our own stories the way we want to tell them. I’m looking to collaborate and make good art with a good tribe. As an actor, as a martial artist I am inspired by films like The Last Samurai, Rocky, and the Empire Strikes Back and I crave a story that celebrates the heroes journey again and that is what my team and I are currently working on. A film, fully practical, that I believe has the potential to speak to us all on a spiritual level. This project will speak to what my brand is as an artist, a call back to a more old fashioned time but with a modern twist.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three virtues that I try to live my life by, and sometimes fail at, are spirituality, kindness, and self discipline. Spirituality allows me to relinquish self importance and allow God to move within my life because I must believe that ultimately he knows what is best for me. Kindness, because it compels me to treat others with respect and look at my fellow people as if they were me in different circumstances, because that is exactly what they are. Self-discipline, because often our flesh will deceive us and have us stay in the same place, whether it’s over eating or sleeping in. Thus never reaching our full potential. And it is our responsibility to say ‘No, get up, get it done, now.’ The only advice I can offer is keep applying these virtues, and when you fail don’t dwell on your failures. Allow the failure to pass and apply yourself again. We will always, all of us, fail. But the more times you fail, eventually, God willing, you will begin to fail less and less.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I’m definitely looking for artists who are in love with the classic art of filmmaking like I am. People that love sword fighting, horseback riding and so on! The best way to get in touch is to just message me on instagram, @iammichaelsgarcia
I am looking to collaborate with artists who want to make films the old fashioned way.
