Meet Alicia Gakima

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alicia Gakima. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alicia, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

I simply believe that I’m worthy of having everything that I work towards.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am a filmmaker, actor, and writer. I also do content creating on TikTok. I like to explore all genres of film. I don’t have one particular niche. I find it kind of limiting being known for just one thing. I enjoy the freedom of experimenting when it comes to my projects.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I think my passion for what I do has kept me going, my resilience, and tunnel vision. When I want something I don’t quit until I have it. I would say make sure you genuinely enjoy what you do. There will be a lot of challenges and you need to make sure you’re willing to deal with whatever may come your way when it comes to your art.

Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?

I think you should go all in with your strengths and by doing that you’ll also learn your weakness. If you don’t start, you’ll never know what you need to improve in. Along the way you will start to understand how to strengthen your weaknesses. I over analyze everything and realized that all that time and energy I was putting into worrying if I was going to fail could have been spent just doing what I’ve always wanted to do. Once I just went for it I found where I could improve and I had people along the way that advised me on how I could improve, but I had to make the first step which was to just start. Doing that got me further than if I had just continued to wait until I felt perfect enough to start.
