Meet Brandon Rowland

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brandon Rowland. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brandon below.

Brandon, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

The most efficient way for me to keep my creativity alive is to constantly set up challenges and goals for my self of inventing and making. I work with a large variety of mediums and in many different areas of art so being able to tell myself to approach material in a different way or work on something to produce an outcome or product thats different from what i usually do introduces a consistency in the space of creation and invention.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am an artist that likes to try new things and constantly create new work. I make knives, pottery, sculptures, painting, drawings, poetry, jewelry and many other products. I love to work on something and just surprise my followers with new creations and ideas.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Persistence, Determination and Optimism have helped me the most in becoming the artist I am today. If you are determined to get somewhere in life, the only thing that can stop you from reaching that goal is you. There will be obstacle in the way but you just have to keep your chin up high and push through with a healthy mindset.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?

Finances are my current hurdle. I completely understand that you have to spend money to make money, but the difficult part of that is the gamble on what you spend it on. I currently have to decide if I’m going to pay for more propane to light my forge or buy handle material for my knives. But this all comes with the craft.
