Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Giovanni Porter. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Giovanni, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
That’s a great question! I honestly get my resilience from experiencing real life situations like we all have. Being 27 now, I look at life so differently and I’m not the same person I use to be 6 months ago or even a year ago. I’ve grown so much and have overcome so many challenges the past decade that have shaped me into who I embrace today. So yeah, the obstacles that I had to face alone definitely played a vital part in my resilience!
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am an indie music artist and I’ve been doing music professionally for over 7 years now! I don’t put myself in any specific box and I don’t let anyone dictate my sound. Constructive criticism is fine, but I still create from my own perspective regardless of feeling validated or not. At the end of the day, my music isn’t for everyone and that’s okay. The people that gravitate towards it are the people that motivate me to continue doing what I love! There’s been many times where I doubted my craft and questioned if I wanted to quit music, but it always comes back around full circle. I’ve released eight studio projects consecutively and I’m about to release my ninth studio project — “Wildcard”, coming 2025. I have a few tricks up my sleeve as well for this new era. This new album is the polar opposite of my recent project — “Soft Boy Era”. I’m so excited to release it and my new single — “Mindf***”, coming soon.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three most impactful that I can think of right now is always being your authentic self, never allowing your emotions overpower your intelligence, and always trusting your intuition! All three are key factors that play a part in life daily. The best advice I could give people younger than me is to not rush growing up! I always use to say to my mom that I can’t wait until I’m grown and now I see what she meant by enjoy being a kid while you can. No matter what, don’t give up on yourself!
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I get overwhelmed, I just have to tune the world out for awhile. There are times where I get overstimulated with people and have to isolate myself until I feel recharged! My advice would be to meditate and take time for you, especially if you feel like you always put everything and everybody before yourself. That in itself can be mentally draining, but we all cope with things differently. Also, I would recommend a journal to help decompress and release your thoughts!
