Meet Ileis Figueroa

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ileis Figueroa a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Ileis , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

My Mother. She moved to Florida from Puerto Rico with all 4 of her children, all under the age of 10 and pushed through every obstacle to make sure we had a better future and more opportunities presented to us. She always found a way to provide even when she had no idea how she would make it happen. We always call her “The go getter” of the family.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

My name is Ileis Figueroa I am 32. A Christian Woman. A mother of two daughters and I am a licensed massage therapist. Founder of Connectbodymx and Head Medical Sports Massage Therapist at Morelife spc. I started my massage career back in 2019 where I attend, Orlando school of Therapeutic Massage & Yoga, thanks to my dear friend Felisha for introducing me into the program. I also was a full-time employee for a health department at the time. During Covid many were laid off, myself being one. That is when I then began my entrepreneur journey. My boyfriend planted a seed in my ear of investing in myself and starting my own mobile company. That is when I launched Connectbodymx on December 2020. Connecting you back into your body, if that’s mentally with breath work or physically with hands on treatment. Massage became an interest to me back in high school. I would randomly massage friends, or athletes in the training room for “fun” because they were sore from their sport. it became a passion when I noticed it made an emotional impact on a family member dealing with stress/anxiety. Thats when I craved to know more about the profession and the affect it had on the chemical reactions of the human body. I now work mobily in the Central Florida area and provide multiple massage services; Swedish, Deep Tissue, Prenatal, Sports Massage, Myofascial Release, etc

Im also a therapist at Morelifespc where I work besides Dr. Santiago and two other amazing therapist. There we work with not only Nba, Nfl, Mlb players but also Auto accident clients, and clients that are looking for maintenance work or come with acute pains. Its a career I wake up and enjoy doing knowing I am helping one body at a time.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Setting my ego aside and asking for help on starting this process. I don’t come from a background of entrepreneurs. So networking and getting out of my comfort zone has got me to where I am now and Plan on continuing to grow in my career. Going to Seminars in person or online. Highly recommend having a mentor that is a head of their career path. Remembering you will fail when trying new things but that doesn’t mean you can’t pivot and continue to see what works for you. Also Writing down what group you’d like to target. For example, Athletes, Women, Men, all Genders etc. Highly continue to do research always more to learn. You won’t know it all.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

My biggest challenge is balancing my work life, mom life, and relationship life (Friends, romantic relationships etc) You can tend to get lost in the business world and can experience burnout. so creating structure in each field is the journey I am on.

Where do you get your work ethic from?

We’ve all heard the phrase “work hard, play hard,” but where does our work ethic
