We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Eno Eka. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Eno below.
Eno, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Finding my purpose has been a journey marked by both challenges and revelations. Initially, I embarked on my professional path with a focus on accounting. However, it soon became clear that while I was proficient with numbers, the monotonous nature of the work didn’t align with my aspirations for a fulfilling career.
My turning point came when I immigrated to Canada from Lagos, Nigeria, in 2018. It presented an opportunity to redefine my trajectory. In a new country and faced with the need to start over, I began exploring fields that offered both growth and the potential for a substantial income. This exploration led me to the tech industry, specifically business analysis, which was rapidly expanding and offered a dynamic, impactful career path.
Through relentless dedication, I secured a six-figure consultant role within six months and soon ventured into entrepreneurship. This journey not only transformed my professional life, but also ignited my passion for helping others achieve similar success. I founded the Business Analysis School to empower individuals, especially immigrants and those from diverse backgrounds, to leverage their existing skills and break into high-paying tech careers.
My purpose crystallized around the idea of providing valuable, actionable guidance to those looking to enhance their careers without starting from scratch. By focusing on the skills and experiences people already possess, I’ve been able to support over 100,000 professionals across 90 countries in achieving their career goals. This work aligns perfectly with my own journey and the broader mission of fostering growth and opportunity.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, three key qualities and skills stand out as being particularly impactful:
Resilience: My journey from starting over in a new country with limited resources to achieving significant success required immense resilience. There were numerous challenges and setbacks along the way, but maintaining a positive mindset and persevering through difficult times was crucial. For those early in their journey, I recommend building mental resilience by setting clear goals, staying adaptable, and learning to view challenges as opportunities for growth. Embracing a mindset of persistence can make a substantial difference in overcoming obstacles.
Continuous Learning: The tech industry is ever-evolving, and staying ahead requires a commitment to continuous learning. Early on, I recognized the importance of expanding my knowledge and skills to remain relevant and competitive. My advice is to actively seek out learning opportunities—whether through formal education, online courses, or industry seminars. Stay curious and open to new information, and don’t hesitate to invest in yourself through skill-building and professional development.
Networking and Relationship-Building: Building a strong network of professional relationships has been vital in my career. Networking not only opens doors to new opportunities, but also provides valuable support and insights from others in the industry. For those just starting out, I suggest engaging with industry communities, attending networking events, and leveraging social media platforms like LinkedIn to connect with peers and mentors. Cultivating meaningful relationships can provide guidance, support, and potential career advancement.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
One book that has been particularly influential in my development is Change Management by Jeffrey M. Hiatt and Timothy J. Creasey. This book offers thoughtful, practical advice for leaders navigating change in a rapidly evolving business landscape.
For me personally, Change Management was vital to my leadership journey, especially as my company has undergone significant transitions multiple times. The book’s focus on managing the human element of change was super impactful. It provided me with essential strategies to prepare for, manage, and reinforce change within our organization, which was crucial for achieving our business objectives.
A few of the most valuable nuggets of wisdom from the book include:
Understanding the Human Element: The book emphasizes the importance of addressing the human side of change, recognizing that people’s reactions and adjustments are central to the success of any transition. This insight helped me approach change management with greater empathy and effectiveness.
Strategic Communication: Hiatt and Creasey stress the significance of clear and consistent communication throughout the change process. This has been a cornerstone in our approach, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed, engaged, and aligned with the changes being implemented.
Reinforcement of Change: The book outlines strategies for reinforcing change and ensuring that new behaviors and practices are sustained over time. This concept has been instrumental in embedding successful changes into our organizational culture and operations.
