Meet Jennifer Lackey

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jennifer Lackey. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jennifer below.

Hi Jennifer, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

I believe confidence and self esteem come from finding your passion and working toward perfecting your art. No one is perfect, however, when you are passionate about something, like I am wedding planning, then you tend to work harder to make it the best that it can be.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m Jennifer Lackey, the founder of Storybook Wedding Consulting, one of Atlanta’s premier wedding planning firms. My passion for weddings began in childhood, where I spent hours crafting dream weddings from bridal magazines. After graduating from Auburn University in 2003, I turned that passion into a thriving business. Since 1998, Storybook Wedding Consulting has been a leader in Atlanta’s wedding industry, collaborating with top vendors to deliver seamless and extraordinary events. We offer a range of services, from full planning to event production, all designed to make you and your loved ones feel like guests at your own wedding. My team and I are committed to creating the perfect wedding experience, saving you time, money, and stress. I’m also a proud wife, mother of two beautiful girls, and dog mom.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

For a wedding planner, I believe the three most important qualities are organization/time management, communication skills and attention to detail.

I believe that organizational skills are crucial for managing multiple tasks, vendors, and timelines simultaneously. Time management is essential for ensuring every aspect of the wedding is planned and executed efficiently.

Communication skills are necessary for building rapport with clients and vendors, and for understanding the needs and desires of the bride and groom. Effective communication ensures clear instructions, negotiations, and problem-solving throughout the planning process not only with the client but with the vendor team to implement the vision.Understanding various communication styles and conflict resolution techniques can help manage stress and expectations. This is huge with weddings because they are a huge expense and can bring out the best and worst in families under such enormous stress. I always joke that I need to be a psychologist because I handle a lot of emotions and problems during the wedding planning process.

A keen eye for detail ensures that every aspect of the wedding aligns with the couple’s vision, from decor to the flow of the event. Creativity allows the planner to design unique and personalized weddings that stand out and reflect the couple’s personalities. I always tell my couples that the most memorable weddings are the ones that guests walk away at the end of the night saying “that was so like the bride and groom!” Staying updated on the latest wedding trends, themes, and vendor offerings is essential for creating a contemporary and memorable event.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I’m feeling overwhelmed, I take a step back and talk to my husband and children about the situation. I find that an outside perspective almost always helps me see the situation differently. Sometimes when you are so close to a situation, it’s hard to see it from a different angle. I also think it’s important to take down time to refill your cup. You can’t perform at 100% if you don’t have 100% to give.
