We were lucky to catch up with Mirna Vizcaino recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Mirna , so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
Only giving from your overfilled cup; was something that flew over my head.
It took me 20+ years to learn and adapt the mantra of only giving from your overfilled cup.
If you can relate to being an individual that is always giving unconditionally, without expectations, always seeing the good in others, and going above and beyond from a place of LOVE.
Then, it is clear that we are exposed to burnout.
Ayurveda has helped me maintain a balanced mind, and be able to give to others from my overfilled cup. I honor my “self care days”
Dry brushing has been part of my 2-3 times a week regimen.
Kansa or gua sha facials to keep the facials to reduce tension in the facial muscles, which help with reducing the appearance of fine lines.
Castor oil packs over my abdomen at night, which aids in detoxifying the liver, womb, and other organs.
Bouncing on the trampoline/ rebounder every morning
Taking herbs, and drinking herbal teas to keep my immune system strong, and lymph nodes happy.
I also enjoy recharging at sound baths, cacao gatherings, getting fire cupping sessions (my favorite thing ever), eating at appropriate times.
Breath work in the morning or yoga nidra meditation.
Spending time with family, especially my beautiful nieces. LOVE YOU so much,my wise sage teachers.
Bonding with my mother as we subconsciously heal generational trauma.
My one an only sister who I adore so much, she is so strong and I truly would not be where I am if it wasn’t for her.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Powered by the elements and protected by the four directions, peaceful world defines me in its entirety,it is in my name “Mir”, which means peaceful world in Russian, and in Latin it means to wander. “adMIRable,” “adMIRation,” “adMIRe,” “MIRacle,” “MIRaculous,” “MIRage,” and “MIRror:
That is factual and all those definitions are great representations of this vessel and the being inside it.
The plants choose me, just like they choose those who seek them.
While in the Ayurvedic program, gaining insight on pathology, diseases, imbalance, herbal formulations I was inspired to create a skin care line with emphasis on ” only putting things on your body that you would eat” With the notion of understanding what one puts on their skin. By introducing products that did not contain chemicals, to offering alternatives to treat dry, oily, blemished, aging skin, Mir Elixirs caters to all!
From Facial floral toners , infused bitter almond face oil that help minimize the appearance of dark spots, and has many age-defying properties, to water activated powder to soap face wash. Not to mention all of these products contain Ayurvedic herbs, so it can’t get better than that. On top of that you receive full disclosure of each plant benefit, because I love sharing wisdom and educating others.
Our Skin care products are safe for the skin and the environment.
From packaging items in reusable blue glass bottles that deflect sun rays to offering discounted refills and eco-friendly shipping packaging.
It’s the small things that count.
Fast forward to four years of running Mir Elixirs, I have shared my products and educated others about the many wonders of Ayurveda, across the Greater Los Angeles region, to Orange County, Santa Clarita, San Bernardino, and even Europe.
Serving a variety of communities from BIPOC, LGBTQ+, senior’s, and individuals with disabilities.
Focusing on community outreach through pop-ups has yield much success, and brings vast feelings of accomplishment.
Looking forward to many more years.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I was fortunate enough to have experience working at Whole Foods before (you know who took over), then it became corporate!
While working in the vitamin department I came to learn so much about myself, it is where my love for aromatherapy grew. It was where Ayurveda found me through the persuasion of a book glance. The title of the book is, The WHEEL of HEALING with AYURVEDA” An easy guide to HEALTHY LIFESTYLE by Michelle S. Fondin. Also while working in the vitamin aisle helped me gain new knowledge on natural skin care products, which was a huge inspiration to begin creating my own aromatherapeutic oil blends.
Be your own teacher, expand your minds, do research, and create your own ideas.
*insert cheesy motivational quote here*
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
Being forever the student of life that I am, I went back to school to finish my Psychology degree. I have been maintaining myself occupied with educating, and doing even more outreach to gain new clients/customers.It’s not easy running a small business, especially when you’re the only one running the show.
Since committing to taking five courses, & being on campus all day twice a week, Life, well it becomes hectic.
I have been keeping my head up and reminding myself of the rewards that are to come.
Making self- care time as much a priority, as meeting homework assignment deadlines! Written and heavily highlighted in bold letters on the planner.
While trusting, and continuing to work hard to share my beautiful skin care creations and facial services that I offer.
Healthy glowing skin all day!
