Meet Brandy Rametta

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brandy Rametta. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Brandy, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience was discovered in my Motherhood. There is a gift given as soon as that seed is planted; it is a life force that knows no bounds. Motherhood was such a spiritual journey for me. What other life experience can give a weighted and venerable body, the most vigorous and indestructible strength? Motherhood put definition on my time, on my name and my true identity. It made me turn what felt like weakness, into resilience. It made me turn past trauma into reflection. It made me turn my fatigue into focus. It forced me to take a good look at myself, to see, I needed to nurture myself first to try to change the pathway for my children. It led me back to my yoga mat, and into a deep re-connection with self development.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am proud to share I am the owner of Heart & Soul Yoga where we offer more than just weekly yoga classes. Our classes are tailored to help with mental health and emotional wellness. In addition, all of our classes are considered “all-level” classes. We want to create a space where people of all levels feel they can come to a class and not feel intimated or off-put by being unable to keep up. Although you can get fancy with challenging yoga poses, I try to challenge people right where they are. I like to work on unblocking the mental and emotional setbacks that keep people from being the best versions of themselves. With my life experience and background, I use yoga as a form of therapy and in leading people to their healing journeys and self-development.

Because I wanted to expand on the work I was doing with Heart & Soul Yoga, I founded The Local Wellness Foundation. This nonprofit has allowed me to dive deeper into working on bringing more diversity and inclusion in yoga. Our nonprofit focuses on inviting community groups and under-served populations to our classes, social wellness events and workshops. We are focused on creating a space for seniors, special needs, men, veterans, corporations, caretakers, kids and so much more. Our services give people an opportunity to experience evidence-based practices that can change our habits and lifestyle. I am proud of the mental health and wellness experts who are apart of the Local Wellness Foundation leadership, who come with experience, education, passion, and compassion. This team and our mission are extraordinary.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1. GETTING OUT OF MY OWN WAY!
I had to learn to get out of my way. I struggled with how I looked on a mat, how I looked in a yoga outfit, and in my yoga poses. I was so critical about everything I did with my yoga practice. I was critical about my body when it came to yoga because I was not a type A “yoga type”. It was not until I overcame postpartum depression that I was able to accept myself exactly where I was. And after 20 years of being a yoga enthusiast, I became a yoga teacher. I was 215 lbs at the time and finally came to a place where I felt good from the inside out. I finally had figured out that my yoga practice was about who I was underneath it all. Since then, I have lost a significant amount of weight, but that is because I worked on my mental health and developed a loving relationship with myself.

2. WHAT OTHER THINK OF YOU IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS
People will always have an opinion about you. And the truth is, IT DOES NOT MATTER. Our judgments and loud opinions of others are usually a reflection of what is going on within ourselves. We cannot make moves in our life based on how others feel or what they think of us. When I finally figured out that I get to create my life exactly how I want, I became laser focus on how I’m going to get there. The opinions that others have of you or me, is just outside noise. I choose to press mute, stay connected to my “dristri” and keep it moving…UP!

3. LEARNING FROM EVERY PERSON, PLACE AND THING AROUND ME
Everything in life is a test or a lesson. When we realize this and start to learn from our tests and our lessons, we become, smarter, wiser and more aligned with where we are meant to be and meant to go.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I am looking for sponsors, partnerships, collaborators, and team members who have gifts, experience and passion. Our mission is to keep giving our community members resources, classes, events and workshops to help heal, to help with mental health and to help guide personal growth. We cannot do this work alone. We need helping hands who can make an impact and to help us grow.
