Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nita June. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nita, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I have found purpose through the act of serving others. When I take the spotlight off of my self and place it on those around me, tasks become effortless and I find myself fueled by a deeper motivation.
Having gone through substantially challenging times in my life that brought with them self doubt, fear, and anxiety, I ventured into some dark periods. During this time, I found myself wondering what was my one purpose, what was it that gave me value, what was it that gave me meaning. This critical and weighty spotlight on myself was lifted and turned when I found that that more I supported others through their challenges, the better I felt about myself. If one can realize that “it is not about you” then your world has the possibility to expand in ways before unimaginable.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I was inspired to establish June College Counseling after spending many years as a full-time high school teacher and in the school admissions world. During this time, I saw more and more high school students anxious, burnt-out, frustrated and confused about their future and current state of education. As a teacher, I could only do so much. But in my current work, I am able to counsel, mentor, guide, and coach young adults to gain confidence in themselves and clarity and trust in the future that awaits them. In this role, I see students holistically. Although I have my methodology and systems, I do not come to my work with young adults with a predetermined agenda or “set path.” And this is what I feel is lacking in many of today’s educational institutions. Much of public education is black and white, right and wrong. But life is not that! I support my students to relax into the beautiful journey of creating a life worth living.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Kindness: Being kind is highly underrated; when you treat anyone with kindness, respect and patience, only good things come. This can take a great deal of self-trust and focus! But the simple act of showing empathy and understanding will take you far in life.
Humility: Having the courage to share and show that you do not know everything, yet still hold strong in yourself, is an incredible skill. Others will be more vulnerable around you and trust you more, knowing that they too do not have it all figured out!
Flexibility: Nothing ever goes exactly as planned. And that does not mean, like many often think or fear, that changing something means failure. Nothing in nature is rigid and unmoving; why should human beings be?

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
I am finding it challenging to sustainably grow my business. I am fortunate to be booked out from now till what seems like eternity with no end of referrals and new clients in sight! But this is not personally sustainable. I find myself being challenged to grow—but not having the time to clearly think through and devise the strategies and plans to do so.
