Meet Tiayana Logan

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tiayana Logan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Tiayana, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

Resilience, for me, is more than just a word—it’s a way of life that I have had to embody in every step of my journey. As a Black mom, a former athlete, and a woman navigating spaces where the odds are often stacked against me, resilience has been both a necessity and a source of strength.

Growing up, I found my first taste of resilience on the field. As a young girl passionate about sports, I often found myself in spaces where my presence was questioned—spaces where being both female and Black was seen as a disadvantage. I quickly learned that I had to be twice as good, twice as fast, and twice as determined to even be considered an equal. I had to fight for every opportunity, every win, and every bit of respect. My journey as a female athlete taught me that resilience isn’t just about bouncing back—it’s about standing firm, staying true to who you are, and pushing forward even when you’re told you don’t belong.

This spirit of resilience was tested further when I became a mom. As a Black woman, I faced stereotypes and preconceived notions about my capabilities as a parent quite even before giving birth, by the very medical professions, who were supposed to support me during such a pivotal process. But my experiences as an athlete had taught me how to handle pressure, how to stand tall in the face of adversity, and how to dig deep when I felt like I had nothing left to give. I channeled those same qualities into motherhood—every sleepless night, every tough decision, every moment of doubt. I drew from the strength of my own mother, and the generations of women who came before me, knowing that my perseverance would set the foundation for my child’s future.

The odds have often been against me, whether on the playing field, in the professional arena, or in the journey of motherhood. But each challenge has only strengthened my resolve. I’ve learned to use the voices that say “you can’t” as fuel to show them that I can and I will. I’ve learned to embrace failure as a stepping stone and to find strength in vulnerability. Most importantly, I’ve learned that resilience is not about perfection; it’s about persistence.

My resilience comes from knowing that I am more than the labels placed upon me. It comes from recognizing that I carry within me the strength of those who came before me and the responsibility to pave a way for those who come after me. It comes from every challenge I’ve faced, every doubt I’ve silenced, and every victory I’ve claimed—both big and small.

Resilience, to me, is about showing up—every day, against all odds, for myself, my family, and the communities I serve. It’s about being the author of my own story, no matter how many times the world tries to write me out of it.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

At “A Mother’s Love Healthcare, LLC,” we provide in-home care services to a wide range of clients, including infants, children, teens, and medically fragile individuals. Our services are designed to extend beyond the typical healthcare experience; we focus on delivering care that feels like family. What excites me most about this venture is our commitment to making healthcare truly personal, meeting people where they are—both literally and figuratively. We aim to create a space where every client feels seen, valued, and understood, much like a mother’s unwavering support for her child.

We offer a variety of services, from companion and sitter services to specialized nursing care, all under the supervision of qualified nurses. What makes us unique is not just the range of our services, but the depth of our commitment to the communities we serve. We understand that healthcare is not just about treating conditions but about enhancing quality of life, building relationships, and fostering trust.

What’s Special About Our Work:
What truly sets us apart is our core belief in the power of love, compassion, and community. As a Black led business, we bring a unique perspective to the healthcare space. We know firsthand the importance of culturally sensitive care and the impact of bridging gaps in access to quality services. Our approach is built on understanding that each individual has unique needs, and we tailor our care plans to reflect that understanding. We are more than a healthcare provider; we are partners in our clients’ journeys toward better health and well-being.

What’s New and What’s Next:
We are excited about several new developments on the horizon! We’re currently expanding our service offerings to include more specialized care for children with behavioral and developmental challenges, leveraging my experience as an RBT. We’re also launching community outreach programs aimed at educating families on health and wellness, and creating partnerships with local organizations to ensure that we can serve even the most underserved members of our community.

Our upcoming plans include hosting local events to foster community engagement, launching a new website to better connect with clients and caregivers, and developing a scholarship fund to help cover care costs for families facing financial barriers. We believe that everyone deserves the highest standard of care, regardless of their circumstances, and we are committed to finding creative ways to make this a reality.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1. Resilience
Resilience has been at the core of my journey, particularly as a Black mom, a former athlete, and an entrepreneur navigating spaces where the odds were often against me. Resilience is about more than just bouncing back from setbacks—it’s about staying committed to your vision, even when the path is uncertain or filled with challenges.

Advice: To develop resilience, embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. Understand that failure is not the end but a stepping stone to success. Surround yourself with a support system that uplifts and encourages you, and take time for self-care to recharge and stay focused on your goals.

2. Adaptability
Being adaptable has been essential in my roles as an educator, mom, and business owner. The ability to pivot, learn, and adjust to new circumstances is crucial, especially in fields that are constantly evolving. Adaptability has allowed me to navigate different professional landscapes, meet the needs of diverse clients, and respond to unexpected challenges with confidence.

Advice: To build adaptability, stay curious and open to new ideas. Be willing to step outside of your comfort zone and try new approaches, even when they feel uncomfortable or unfamiliar. View every change or disruption as a chance to learn something new and expand your skill set.

3. Empathy and Relationship-Building
Empathy has been fundamental in building meaningful relationships, whether in the classroom, as a healthcare provider, or in the business world. Understanding and connecting with people on a human level has allowed me to foster trust, drive engagement, and create a supportive environment where everyone feels valued.

Advice: To enhance empathy, practice active listening and put yourself in others’ shoes. Seek out diverse perspectives and be genuinely interested in the experiences of others. Remember that empathy is not just a skill but a habit—one that requires constant practice and reflection to grow.

For anyone early in their journey, focus on cultivating these qualities through everyday experiences. Seek out mentors, engage in self-reflection, and always keep your core values at the forefront of everything you do. Growth takes time, so be patient with yourself, celebrate small victories, and remain committed to your personal and professional development.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

1. My Mother:
My mother has been a constant source of strength, resilience, and inspiration. She taught me the value of perseverance and hard work from a young age. Watching her navigate her own challenges with grace and determination instilled in me the belief that I, too, could overcome any obstacle. She taught me to be fearless, to stand tall in the face of adversity, and to never doubt my worth or potential. Her unwavering belief in me has been a foundation upon which I’ve built my confidence and resolve.

2. Mentors and Coaches:
Throughout my journey as a former athlete and now as a business owner, I have been fortunate to have mentors and coaches who believed in me even when I doubted myself. These individuals, whether coaches from my athletic days or professional mentors in my career, have provided guidance, encouragement, and constructive feedback. They have helped me see beyond the immediate challenges, provided practical advice, and pushed me to grow beyond my comfort zone. They taught me that being a leader is about being adaptable, staying committed to personal growth, and leading with empathy and integrity.

3. My Community:
The community around me, including peers, colleagues, and even clients, has been invaluable in helping me develop critical skills and qualities. Engaging with diverse groups has expanded my perspective, helped me build resilience, and deepened my empathy. Each person I’ve interacted with has contributed to my journey by challenging me, teaching me, and supporting me in unique ways.

Advice for Others:
To anyone looking to build essential skills and overcome challenges, I’d encourage you to seek out and nurture meaningful relationships. Find mentors who genuinely care about your growth and be open to learning from those around you, even in unexpected places. Never underestimate the power of having strong, supportive people in your corner who believe in your potential and encourage you to strive for greatness.
