Meet Alexa Goldie

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alexa Goldie a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Alexa with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

My work ethic comes from experience. I spent years waiting for things to happen in my career and finally realized that things don’t just happen in this industry without hard work and dedication. Once I started putting in the work, I saw results and that’s how I learned to work for this. My parents were also main drivers in pushes me to have a good work ethic. Growing up I got to watch them work every day endlessly to reach their own goals, dreams and ambitions. Having role models show me how hard work pays off helped a lot.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Music has always been apart of my life for as long as I can remember. Every video my parents have of me as a child, I am writing songs, performing and singing at the top of my lunges! I grew up in a small town called Kingston, Ontario in Canada where there were always places to learn instruments and performance opportunities. At 10 years old, I had auditioned for the lead role in a rock band. I ended up booking the lead singer role for 5-bands and that’s where my love for performing grew. At 12, I went to Los Angeles to write and record pop music for the first time. At 16, I decided that I wanted to pursue country music. At 21, I moved to Nashville. Although I’ve been chasing this dream for almost 15 years, it feels like I am still that little 5 year old just singing at the top of her lunges.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Work ethic: without going through the obstacles, hearing the hundreds of no’s and having failed experiences, I wouldn’t have learned the importance of work ethic. No one makes it in this industry without hustling, putting your name out there every day and working-hard.

Staying grounded: I have my parents to thank for keeping me grounded. Anytime I would get “a big head”, they would bring me right back down to earth and remind me that everyone is equal…we all put our pants on the same way.

Support: through the trials and hard times, I always had my friends and family to lean on, which is one of the sole reasons I am still here pursuing this dream today. It’s always good to have good people in your corner to celebrate the highs and hold you during the lows.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

Whenever I am overwhelmed, I try to remind myself that the younger version of myself would be envious of the position I am in. I also know that there are people out there who would give up a lot to be where I am in my career, so I try to not take it for granted. I also ask myself if the things that I am overwhelmed with are something I can control or not. I’ve had to learn to let go of stress when it’s out of my control.
