Meet Leeroy Nyabeze

We recently connected with Leeroy Nyabeze and have shared our conversation below.

Leeroy , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

My resilience stems from a combination of personal experiences and the support system around me. Growing up, I faced various challenges that taught me the importance of perseverance and adaptability. My family and friends has always been a pillar of strength, encouraging me to push through difficult times and reminding me of my capabilities. My career in modeling has required me to develop a thick skin and a positive mindset as it’s a field where rejection and criticism are common. Each setback has been a learning opportunity helping me to grow stronger and more determined. Ultimately my resilience is a blend of inner strength, learned lessons and the unwavering support of those who believe in me.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

As a versatile fashion, editorial and commercial model, I have the privilege of working in an industry that thrives on creativity and innovation. My career allows me to engage in a variety of projects from high fashion runway shows to editorial shoots and commercial campaigns each offering a unique platform to showcase my versatility.

What excites me most about modeling is the opportunity to collaborate with some of the most talented and creative individuals in the fashion world. Each project is a new adventure, where I get to bring different visions to life and contribute to the ever evolving narrative of fashion.

One of the most special aspects of my work is the ability to inspire and influence through visual storytelling. Fashion is not just about clothing, it’s about expressing identity, culture and emotion. I am passionate about using my platform to promote positive messages and inspire confidence and individuality in others.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Adaptability
The fashion industry is ever evolving and being able to adapt to new trends, styles and environments has been crucial. Whether it’s adjusting to different types of shoots or working with diverse teams adaptability has allowed me to stay relevant and versatile. My advice for those starting out, embrace change and be open to learning. Try to work in various settings and with different photographers to build a diverse portfolio. This will not only enhance your skills but also make you more marketable.

Professionalism
Maintaining a high level of professionalism has been key to building a solid reputation. This includes being punctual, respectful and prepared for every assignment. Professionalism fosters trust and long term relationships with clients and colleagues. Always show up on time, be prepared and communicate effectively. Treat every job big or small with the same level of dedication. Your reputation is your brand and professionalism will set you apart in a competitive industry.

Networking
Building strong relationships within the industry has been invaluable. Networking has opened doors to new opportunities, collaborations and insights that I wouldn’t have accessed otherwise. Attend industry events, fashion shows and social gatherings. Be genuine in your interactions and follow up with people you meet. Networking is about building meaningful connections not just collecting contacts.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

My mentor, Liezel Elmene Jacobs has been instrumental in my journey towards success. Her guidance and support have been invaluable in helping me navigate the challenges of the fashion industry. Liezel’s extensive experience and deep understanding of the industry have provided me with the essential skills and knowledge needed to excel. She has a unique ability to identify and nurture potential and her mentorship has been a cornerstone in my development as a model. Her unwavering belief in my abilities has inspired me to push beyond my limits and strive for excellence in every aspect of my career.
