Meet Jacob Wirth

We were lucky to catch up with Jacob Wirth recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jacob, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

When I think about where I get my resilience from, it comes from two places. On the healthy side, I owe a lot to my dad. Even at 74, he’s one of the hardest workers I’ve ever known. Watching him push through challenges, always striving to do his best, has inspired me to keep going, no matter what. He’s set a powerful example of perseverance that I try to live by.

On the other side, there’s a bit of an unhealthy motivation. I have a deep fear of failure, of being exposed or letting people down. That fear pushes me, too—sometimes in ways that aren’t ideal. It drives me to keep pushing forward, even when the pressure is overwhelming. So, it’s a mix of admiration and fear, but both keep me moving.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

In 2018, my wife and I had the incredible opportunity to plant a church, which later merged with our current church, MIX Church. Over the last few years, we’ve experienced countless ups and downs, but through it all, God has been incredibly faithful and good. Today, I have the privilege of pastoring a church that’s predominantly made up of people under the age of 35, many of whom are single. One of the most exciting aspects of what I do is getting to share God’s word in a way that literally changes the life trajectory of people.

In addition to pastoring, I’ve stepped into a newer role as a songwriter. Our church has recently released our first five-song EP titled “Move,” which has been a huge milestone for us. Being able to contribute musically to the worship experience is something I’m really passionate about, and I’m excited to see how God continues to move through this new chapter.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Resiliency, Humility and a Growth mindset. I haven’t always learned those the easy way. In many cases I was prideful and learned the hard way about how important humility is. In some cases I gave up too early and learned how crucial resiliency is. In some cases I’ve been closed minded and accepted certain things about myself instead of grasping a growth mindset

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

one of the greatest challenges I have right now is that I’m 37 and I feel like I should be further along (ie more accomplished, more educated, more skilled) The opportunity (I know) is that I’m still quite young and can reinvest into myself but the urgency seems to be greater and at times can squeeze out my patience.
