Meet Takeya Glenn

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Takeya Glenn. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Takeya, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
Many people pursue artistic or creative careers, but I have a passion for creating and expressing through various mediums such as music, art, writing, and my favorite makeup. I have been drawn to these forms of expression from a young age from my mother and have developed my skills and talents over time. I see my artistry as a powerful means of communication and a way to address social or political issues within the beauty community. I was also very attracted to the freedom and flexibility that my career offered, allowing me to work on my own terms and to pursue my passion while earning a living. Ultimately, the optimism for pursuing a career is as varied as the individuals who choose to do so, and each person’s motivations are unique to their own experiences and aspirations. These are just some outlooks that I look towards when it’s based on my career.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Starting a business can be an exciting and rewarding experience, but it can also be challenging. One of the most important things for my business is to have a unique value proposition that sets it apart from my competitors. This is approached by my unique and authentic product and services, my exceptional customer service, o and my strong brand identity.

Building a successful business also requires persistence, hard work, and a willingness to learn and adapt. I found it extremely important to be open to feedback and to constantly evaluate and refine my products, services, and marketing strategies for not just my artistry but my cosmetics line as well. I saw my vision and created a plan.

Along the way, there will inevitably be challenges and setbacks. The key for me was to stay focused on the goals I created (and acknowledge what I achieved) and to be flexible in my approach. I am always willing to pivot or adjust my strategy if something isn’t working, which is the importance of perseverance, the value of a strong team, and the need to stay focused on the customer. Building a successful business is a long-term effort that requires dedication and hard work, but it can also be incredibly rewarding.

As for what I want the world to know about me or my brand is that I believe I should strive to make a positive impact on the world and to create value for others so I keep pushing. Trust and believe it’s not always peachy keen, it’s been days that I made little to none for 5 months straight and then get orders adding up to 1k plus, but I kept optimizing the tools around me and consistently grew. Beautybrat Co is THE top tier cosmetic line with cruelty free products that are long lasting, and that’s truly a cut above the rest. My commitment to sustainability and quality control ensures that my products are the perfect choice for anyone who wants to look and feel their best.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Creativity, technical skills, and entrepreneurship are qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge, artists can build a strong foundation for their careers and achieve success in the highly competitive world of artistry. Successful makeup artists often need to be entrepreneurs, as they need to market and sell their work, manage their finances, and build a brand. This requires skills in areas such as marketing, networking, and financial management, as well as a willingness to take risks and adapt to changing circumstances.

If you’re just starting out on your journey in the cosmetics industry, there are a few key things you can do to develop your skills and improve your products:
1. Research: Take the time to learn as much as you can about the industry, including the latest trends, ingredients, and techniques. This will help you stay up-to-date and ensure that your products are competitive.
2. Practice: Practice makes perfect, so spend as much time as possible experimenting with different formulas, colors, and application methods. This will help you hone your skills and develop your own unique style.
3. Get feedback: Don’t be afraid to ask for feedback from friends, family, and other industry professionals. This can help you identify areas for improvement and refine your products.
4. Stay committed: Building a successful cosmetics line takes time and effort, so stay committed to your goals and don’t give up easily. Keep pushing yourself to improve and innovate.

Remember by faith, following these tips and staying dedicated to your craft, you can develop the skills and expertise needed to succeed in the cosmetics industry. If this was for you I wish you success on your journey! See you at the top babe!

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My mother, Sondra Brown Glenn.

Although she is no longer with us in body, her spirit and her legacy continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to know her. As her child, she have left an indelible mark on my life, and I will always be grateful for the love and guidance she provided. Her creative spirit and entrepreneurial drive as a makeup artist and business owner inspired me to pursue my own passions and to work hard to achieve my goals. She showed me what it meant to be dedicated, persistent, and to put your heart and soul into everything you do.

I remember how she taught me to find beauty in the world around us and to appreciate the small things in life. Her positivity and unwavering belief in my abilities gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams, and for that, I will always be grateful.
Although I miss her dearly, I take comfort in knowing that her legacy lives on through the lives she touched and the work she accomplished. If she could read this, thank you for being my mother, my mentor, and my friend. I love you always.
