Meet Leah Kyriakis

We were lucky to catch up with Leah Kyriakis recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Leah , thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

I believe you overcome imposter syndrome by believing in yourself and trusting your capabilities. Never compare yourself and your work to others. Trusting that what you bring to the table is unique to you and your approach. It’s easier said than done, but you just have to keep moving forward in your craft, keep learning and putting yourself out there. As time goes by, confidence grows in yourself and imposter syndrome disappears.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Up until 5 years ago I was a fashion designer. At 32 years old I realized I was not fulfilled in my job and as much as I love fashion, I didn’t find real purpose in it. Being an athlete and dancer all my life, fitness was a big part of my lifestyle. After giving it some thought, I realized I wanted to switch careers and become a personal trainer. That was the best decision I’ve made!

Being a personal trainer has given me so much joy and I know I have found my purpose. Being trusted in people’s health and wellness journey is a great honor. My day to day is working with clients privately and I also have an online program that anyone can access to workout anytime anywhere! You can find more information and subscribe at www.leahkyriakis.com.

LK Fitness brings you functional training which allows you to target overall body wellness. From strength, flexibility & mobility, which are all key factors to have an overall healthy body as the years go by. Connecting mind and body through different forms of strength training, creating a more sustainable way of incorporating working out into your lifestyle.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Three things that have impacted my journey and I live by are: every experience is a learning experience no matter the outcome, don’t compare yourself to anyone, and don’t look for validation outside yourself, trust yourself to stay true to yourself.

My advice for people starting on their journey is to first believe in yourself and your craft. Ask for help when you need and always keep learning, that’s where you find ways to improve or get new ideas. Look for inspiration in others you admire but never compare yourself to anyone, your journey is your own. Lastly, your timing is the right one, good things take time and work, don’t rush your journey.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

I love to read and one of the books that always sticks out most when asked this question is called Cree En TI by Ruth Nieves. The English translation is Believe in Yourself, I’m sure there is a copy in English, if you find it I really recommend it. This book talks about quieting the subconscious thoughts and believes we have attached to fear, doubt and norms we’ve been taught as kids that could be limiting us as adults.

It brings awareness on how we overthink and let fear or doubts take over us as we try to move forward in personal and professional life. This book was one of the motivating factors that reminded me I can do whatever I set my mind to if I just take the leap. It helped me change 15 years of my fashion career into becoming a personal trainer. The peace and happiness that has come with that decision is the best thing I’ve done for myself!
