We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Michael Eagan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Michael, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from my father, Robert Eagan. He came to the USA from Honduras, seeking new opportunities and carved a path for the rest of our family to make it over and become extremely successful. Whether he was in the office, the kitchen or at church he worked tirelessly until the task at hand was complete.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
As DJ Spynfo, I wear many hats, but my primary focus is Sankofa Haus, a versatile event space located in the South Bronx. Sankofa Haus is more than just a venue—it’s a cultural hub designed to bring people together through private events, weddings, corporate gatherings, and community activations. What excites me most about this project is the opportunity to blend my love for music, community, and cultural consciousness into a single space. The energy that fills the room when people come together to celebrate or collaborate is something that inspires me every day.
At Sankofa Haus, **Mic Check Wednesdays** is a community favorite, offering artists a platform to showcase their talents, from live music to spoken word and comedy. It’s all about connecting creatives and fostering collaboration. Another staple is **Third Ave Jazz**, where we bring together top jazz musicians for an evening of amazing music. Third ave Jazz is The South Bronx 1st Immersive Modern Jazz & Rnb experience, highlighting Global hits with Afro-Caribbean twists!
Both events reflect our mission to uplift the arts and create spaces for authentic expression.
We are also expanding our reach by collaborating with more artists and community leaders to continue shaping Sankofa Haus into a space that resonates with creativity and progress. The possibilities for growth are endless, and I’m excited for what’s to come.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three most important things to me are discipline, vision, and action. In other words before you approach any concept idea or dream you must first write it down than consciously juggle between what you’ve written and what you’re currently thinking. meditate and imagine all of the possibilities and routes to executing this idea. Write those out and from that moment, put those ideas into action. “Conscious thoughts times action equals manifestation”. – Billy Carson. People need to realize that our dream and thoughts are the architects of our reality. Remove the fear, and lean more into your thoughts. Meditate and execute!
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
“The miseducation of the Negro” is probably the most important book I’ve ever read. It reminded me that my circumstances provide me with unlimited resources right within my reach because there are needs opportunities within my own community. Many times people seek to find opportunities outside of where they were raise, and there are usually a wealth of opportunities closest to your doorsteps. P.O.O.R. Passing over opportunities repeatedly. And many circumstances people remain poor because they don’t take time to prepare and gain knowledge through information. Books etch information into your mind like no other medium and if anyone is trying to seriously become great in business they need to read and learn from those who came before us.
