Meet Yesenia Alvarez

We were lucky to catch up with Yesenia Alvarez recently and have shared our conversation below.

Yesenia, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

This is a constant development! I guess part of it is not having another choice! If I don’t believe in my business, who will?

I told myself I was going to live off my business. I quit my job that was my only income at the time. So this HAD to work!

I’ve dedicated 100% of myself to Sabado Cleaners for the past couple years. I am proud of the brand we’ve built. I’m sure of myself when pitching the service to potential clients, and we deliver! This is how we make money and build clientele.

We practice gratitude for each opportunity given to us. I listen to leadership podcasts, read business books and meditate. Developing good communication, negotiation, and assertiveness skills is important!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m the President of Sabado Cleaners LLC. It was officially incorporated in 2023 but the team’s been working since 2021, shortly after COVID-19.

Sabado Cleaners is an ode to my Mexican family that would wake me up every Saturday morning to clean the house. I wanted to provide that same discipline, love and dedication to all the properties we service.

Our service list now includes: residential, commercial, vacation rental cleaning, mobile detailing, lawn work, carpet cleaning, organization and decluttering.

The business has grown fast in a short amount of time. We are now in 3 cities across the United States! We started in Chicago, opened up shop in Scottsdale, AZ and now on the east coast in Columbus, OH.

We also recently launched our own non-toxic all-purpose spray!

It’s less about selling a service and more about suiting the needs of the client.
Most of our clients have pets, children and seniors in the home. They can be sensitive to chemicals and fragrances.

Our spray is made with high grade essential oils. It disinfects, deodorizes and smells FRESH!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I got my work ethic and discipline from my parents. My father made me work at the family business during summer vacations. We had a strict schedule. It was the same routine every day. To this day, I keep a routine. When you don’t have a boss over your shoulder telling you what to do all day, you need to be that boss to yourself!

The business is a reflection of its leadership.

I write down tasks to complete for the following day on a post-it and stick it on my bedroom door.

When I walk out that door, I am going to complete those tasks. If I don’t, the business will be delayed a day. Consistent small steps forward is what has helped us grow.

It is more than just hiring people to clean. We hire go-getters that are dedicated to their work. I check-in and motivate my team. I am always available to talk. We are in this together!

While interviewing, I go based off my intuition, and it’s always been right.

Once a team member is subtracting more than they are adding, they have to go. I would rather have a few great people, than several problematic ones.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

Applying The 10x Rule has helped so much!

It taught me to set the standard for the day, hold that same standard tomorrow, and add on to it!
