We were lucky to catch up with Daniella Green recently and have shared our conversation below.
Daniella , thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
In order to be comfortable entering any room, you have to be very clear on who you are & what you bring to the table. This is imperative because you won’t ever have the feeling you have to feel the need to “change”, “tweak”, “act” or “be” ignored to succeed or be seen and heard. When I notice I’m the only woman (which is the story of my life) or the person of color in the room I carry my ancestors with me, my grandparents who raised me and I see the people in the room as very fortunate that they get to embrace that & learn from encountering me. I know that my presence matters & my performance creates the experience for the next woman of color behind me.
Sometimes when you’re the only” in the room, you’d be surprised at how much that makes people drawn to you and encounter you. So I see it as a positive experience. I get to create an impact or change the narrative for women in business.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
“I have recently launched a course called ‘Leveraging Chat GPT for Job Hunters: Enhancing Leadership Skills and Career Advancement.’ This course aims to strengthen participant’s ability to communicate their professional brand and tell their impactful stories. Throughout the summer, my courses have focused on ‘The Conflicts As You Climb The Ladder.’ I provide communication planning and strategies to address various topics, including ‘Navigating a Pay Raise When You’ve Outgrown Your Role,’ ‘Dealing with Boss Insecurities,’ ‘Blueprinting for Career Advancement,’ and more.
In addition to my courses, I offer coaching services for individuals entering executive leadership or seeking leadership roles. My coaching encompasses high-performance strategies, execution roadmaps, leadership negotiations, and interview preparation. Furthermore, I provide ESG/Sustainability advice to executive teams and CEOs in the tech and oil and gas industries.
My passion lies in helping professionals effectively communicate their value, become high performers, and, most importantly, advance into the roles they truly deserve.”
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. The most important skill is how to just introduce yourself & get to know people. I know this is hard for introverted personalities. However, understanding how to connect to people is imperative to any business owner and professional trying to make an impression.
2. Stay updated: I have been an avid reader of the Wall Street Journal, I’ve sat on their panels and contributed to their pieces! If you don’t know what’s going on, then you don’t know what matters to corporations and if you don’t know that you’re not very important as “what matters” is the most important to revenue and bottom line. It also helps you to see how other successful companies are adjusting to the changing times and boom of high technology. This allows me to bring fresh solutions to the table at all times
3. Getting out there on social media! Yes, I hate it too. But I find that so many professionals need to hear my message. A lot of my clients come from there too.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
Robert Greene’s, 48 Laws Of Power, this book is by far one of the most compelling I’ve read. It’s not so much about what to do to gain power, it’s to inform you of what game is being played and how to adjust. People feel like it’s immoral but it’s not meant for that. If you don’t understand how power works, what power dynamics are and your best position in corporate America or in running a business this is for you
